Last heard it was 36-38 k. Not worth that much imho. 25-30 is a good price to pay for it.. People comin from usa can get it for about 27k. I paid duty on mine so it came to about 30k. Still, the Sound quality from this one cannot be beaten by other head units within that range. Bluetooth is buggy, so is the interface. But its still the best head unit MY money can buy!

x693 and x993 are for US market.

In here we have x9006U and x8009U and x7009U for the excelon range.

But i think x9006U is the x991 in US.

I am in some kinda Dilemma now.
Option 1:
HU - CD 7200 MKII (Around 420$)
Amp - MB Quart DISCUS 4125 (Around 200$)

Option 2:
HU - DXZ785USB (Less than 200$) / X693 (around 180$)
Amp - JL 450/4 V2 (Around 480$)

So my question is, Is it worth going in for the Eclispe (better HU) and worth going in for a better Amp ?

i think the second option will be good, but without knowing the rest it is hard to say about the amps.
BTW where are you still getting the clarion HU,almost all site have it discontinued including sonicelectronix.com

Few are there in Ebay and and few in a site called Techronics (but ~230$)

Car Stereo - Car Speakers - Car Amplifiers - Car Subwoofers - Car Alarms

MI10, from my limited experience and in my journey towards true Hi-Fi, I have realized one thing clearly - it pays a lot to have a great source to begin with. I am sure Frank and others will be able to better point out the difference in SQ between an Eclipse 7200 and Clarion DXZ785- but to me the difference between Clarion on one hand and Pioneer basic models (3xxx,4xxx,5xxx types) and Alpine basic models (9883) on another is like night and day. God forbid if my Clarion gets stolen someday, I will again buy the same model even at a higher price, than go the Pioneer/Kenwood/Alpine (sub-Rs. 10k models) route.

So if I were you and could afford the Eclipse, I'll go ahead and plonk for it. But be sure to check with Frank on whether the price difference (nearly 20k) from Clarion is justified.

Exactly the reason why I waited 2 months to get the Clarion DXZ785USB instead of the easily available Pioneers for the same price. I know I couldnt keep upgrading every now and then so waited and got the Clarion.

The Clarion or for that matter even the Alpine 9887 do not and cannot hold a candle to the 7200. The dac/processing abilities/absurdly high preout voltage of the eclipse cannot be 'eclipsed'
Usb and bluetooth are added attractions. It being a copper chassis and deadhead also add a lot to the 'wow' factor and aid in lowering the noise floor.
I'd take a good source over anything else. Period.

My 2 cents would be to go in for the eclipse 7200MKII. A superior source unit makes quite a difference to the SQ and I believe the HU is one of the most important component in the ICE chain. Out of experience and spending quite a bit of mulah, I have learnt that it's best not to rush.A good HU is paramount to bring out the best from a good,mid-fi amplifier. Build up your system one step at a time. A Hi-Fi substitue/Upgrade to the 7200MKII would be hard to come by at that price and is a Hi-Fi Hu that you will surely enjoy for years.

Disclaimer - Having given you my 2 cents I will be spending my last few rupees on a KDC- X693, as that's all I can afford on a tight budget.

Frank, I totally believe you. But I would also advise MI10 to first define for himself the end goal of his car audio setup, and his seriousness towards achieving this goal. Everyone would want to set a goal to win SQ competitions, but few have the seriousness (it takes lots of time, effort and money to say the least) to reach it. Others can instead set a goal of very good quality, hi-fidelity sound and reach it with much less effort. Setting a high-goal and then finding you don't have time, money etc. to reach it a sure recipe for disappointment.

I think MI10 should safely steer clear of low-end Pioneers/Kennys/Alpines. He can take a pick between Clarion, Alpine 9887, Eclipse 7200 and any other reputed SQ-oriented HU that (a) matches his end goal of his car audio, and more importantly (b), is within his budget.

If he indeed has set up a lofty goal and is determined enough to achieve it, why shouldn't we also suggest him the Clarion HX-D2?

Thanks Guys,

Found some really good reviews about the CD7200MKII. Also, the 8V preout is too good to ignore.

I ll go with the Eclipse
