ICE Upgrade for new Cedia

I am getting a new Cedia Spirit by the end of this week. I was told by the dealer that it has a Blaupunkt Bahamas MP46 HU standard. I wanted to add iPod/USB functionality and Bluetooth interface to the HU by connecting the available adapters but their cost itself is some 15k odd as quoted by the Blaupunkt dealer. So i was wondering whether its a better idea to trade in the new HU as soon as i get it and get a iPod + Bluetooth built in HU.

Any ideas for such a HU and its approximate cost ? preferably with B&W.

Thanks a lot !

no hassle you can pick up a 3.5mm connect to use it with the standard aux in on the head and take a belkin charger available at all apple stores. there are cheaper ones available but blkin is pretty much the best. you can also pick up a dock and use that. it will get you the digital output grade audio from your ipod and you'll have a place o put it. also blaupunkts are not typically throw away systems. ive had one in my car for 6 years and even today without an amp the output is fantastic using just a 3.5mm plug.

Go in for a Kenwood BT738U if you want something in official

Or else go in for a Pioneer 7050BT in grey

Both will be below Rs 15000 and will work well.

I looked around the internet and the forum quite a bit and it seems only possible choices for a Bluetooth + iPod ready (without any extra interface) are Kenwood BT7539U & Pioneer BT enabled unites (6050 or 7050 ??). Are there any more choices south of 15k ?

Also i am being quoted 15k for the kenwood one with 3k payout for the old Blaupunkt HU. This sounds reasonable ?

HI there,

Dont know about blue tooth but you can certainly connect ipod on aux input of Bahama 46.

I think throwing it away for 3k is waste, rather i would suggest upgrade speakers of Cedia and keep Bahama 46. The OEM supplied ones are not good atall.

Get an Aux cable with 3.5mm pin and spend ur money on better speakers is what I suggest.

the ipod cable should be only about 2K. the bluetooth interface might be a bit more (8K??).

1000Horses

For me the urgent thing right now is Bluetooth. Therefore doesnt make any sense to spend 9k extra for the bluetooth interface when i can pay 3k more and get a Bluetooth + ipod equipped HU. So my inclination towards the kenwood/pio HU. Anyway in 6-7 months, i will be upgrading the speakers as well to add sub + amp + comps.

navin

The dealer quoted me 9k odd for the Bluetooth interface and 5k odd for the iPod interface cable (not the aux in / simple usb connector for iPod). I would like to have the conveinience of changing tracks/playlists from HU itself so i am looking for a proper iPod interface and not just the aux-in.

I suggest you get the 6539U (Rs 9500 w/B&W) and the BT200 (Rs 5500 grey). You will save a thousand or two.

The 6539 / 7539 Kenwood HUs have great sound,
Separate front / rear HPF,
2 year warranty,
USB> iPod (no need to buy any other cable, just plug in your ipod as you do into your PC's USB)
cool lighting etc

@12K I think it's a good deal, though you may be able to get slightly more for your Blau (not sure).

Saw some Xplod models with Bluetooth in 8K-15K range
Xplod™ CD Receiver : In-Car Entertainment : Sony India
Did you check out those - Is there any feedback about those?

General feedback about Sony HU's doesnt seem to be too good compared to Kenwood/Pioneer. So i am not looking at Sony.

Sony IMO is crap in the SQ dept. Very noisy players.
It's made for the category of consumers who just need some player and some sound in the car. Not refinement. The stuff if you compare only features is well priced though.

Finally got the Kenwood BT7539U installed. Installation was done at Sathya's place (EVO). It costed me 14.8k and i got 3.5k off due to return of OE Bahamas MP46 HU.

Now the next step is adding a amp + new speakers. I have a budget of around 15k for those. I was thinking of adding a 4 channel amp + rear co-axs + front comps for now. Then after a couple of months add a good sub. I am usually the only one in the car so i am not so concerned about back speakers.

Any ideas for the same ? I primarily listen to HipHop/House/Bollywood.

^^^

If you dont care for the rears, get the front + sub right now and add the rears as and when you find them necessary.
