Suppressed sound

Since the last few days, I have been facing a strange problem with my ICE.

The volume seems quite suppressed at the level of 15-20 (which is what I used to listen at normally, when windows are rolled up). Only after I jack up to 25-30 does it become 'normal'. Previously, at a level of 25-30 I would go momentarily deaf to road noises etc.

Weirdly, everything is the same in my system. Amp gains or for that matter, none of the settings on the amp or the HU have been tweaked. Software (MP3s playing off the USB) are the same.

The only incidence that I remember was when frankmehta was testing out the Pioneer steering remote control on my system and the ATT (attenuation) button got pressed accidentally and the sound was suppressed for a moment. Of course we reversed the change right there and then.

Now what can the issue be? There is no ATT function in Pioneer 5050 menu so I am pretty sure I could not have pressed it by mistake. Car has not gone for service so no chance of tweaks from that end as well.

P.S. Does Illusion Electra 6.1 XOs have a setting like JBL compos have?

-6, 0 and +6!
they have 3 settings. mine is set on -6.

nishant, as far as your problem is concerned, im sure its SLA. the source volume must be at 0. try increasing it, and you'll know the difference!

You guys need to read the manual. It's a jumper setting on the board. The topmost (default) is 0dB. Middle position is -3dB, and lowest is +3dB. Use -3dB if the tweeters are ending up closer to the listening position than the midwoofers.

I changed the SLA to +4 for USB and CD. yes, it does make hell of a difference. However, I fine the sound 'muffled' at lower volumes i.e ~level 3-4. Has that got to do with cross over settings? Or is it my 'veham'?

Ajay, is there a factory default setting for the XOs? AFAIK, Pankaj bhai installer's did not tweak any setting while installing the compos, neither did Zohir, while installing the sub.

OT - I need your help for in getting the sub enclosure re-designed and also to correct the alternator whine! When can I appear at your Hermit House?

Default setting is 0 dB. Sometime next week should be fine.

As mentioned in this thread earler, why is it incorrect to install HU from the front of center console?

i swapped 3 HU's in last few months and all of them were mounted from the front, due to which there was no need to open the central console
