Fake JBL components??? EDIT: Phew! They are original.

I bought a Swift 2 months back and like everyone of us here I wanted to get some ICE for my new car. I headed to what I thought was a reliable option CAR MAN, Paschim Vihar. I read reviews about him on the forum after I had got my stuff. People who know about that place please read further before killing me for going to him.

Alright, I got a pioneer head unit, JBL components (GT5 650C) for the front and Sony coax (XS GTX 1640) for rear. I wanted 608 but he said these are latest. Got a warranty card with his seal and everything (looks genuine). Now after going through the JBL India website I feel I have been cheated. Could not find this model of components on the site. Tried registering online using the warranty card that I got but could not. Says “please check your warranty card number”. Will open up the door trim tomorrow and see what is written on the back of the speakers.

After checking the website I am pretty sure of whats going on. Can I do anything now? Its been 2 months. Should I go to tell him what I have found out? What steps can I take against him now? Can i threaten him of reporting the matter to JBL officials and get a replacement?

Need your help guys!!!!
I am attaching a pic of the components.

show him this website and also tell him his name has been printed in bold here. take your laptop with this page open.
also alert sam kapasi here. he might help sort the confusion as to whether there exists a model of the aforementioned name.
how much did u pay and where are the xovers??

Gt5-650c

Are you asking whether the GT5-650C model number is fake, or whether the speakers you had installed are fake?

If it's the former, then you're safe as the GT5-650C component speakers do exist.

Check this thread -> http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/produc...t5-series.html

Wait for Sam's reply on this before you do anything. He's the best person to answer your query.

Yes, talk / PM to Sam and get his opinion first. Does the warranty card has number printed or written. If later, then chances are that typo. Do wait for input from our Sam.

Hello,

First relax. Breathe. In. Out. Slowly.

Car Man is an authorised dealer. The Gentleman in charge isalled Sachin. can give him my regards.
The GT5-650C is indeed an original JBL product. I am confident of this.

The GTO608C is a product from a higher series and it costs more.

Lastly, the reason the website does not accept your warranty card, is because the GT5-650C has been discontinued a month ago and replaced with the new product from the GT5-S series - the GT5-S265C. This is a minor upgrade.
However your warranty card is very much valid.

Breath. In. Out.

It feels much better to know that your speakers are not fake, ain't it?

@white_vdi: I'm myself been a customer of car man, paschim vihar.. bought my earlier entire JBL set-up with B&W from him. Sachin is indeed a good fellow, he might extend some discounts owing to SAM.. but he makes it up all on the installation part. He is an authorized JBL dealer.. so chill!

Pheeeew!!!

Thanks alot guys for your words. It is such a relief to know that they are genuine.

i have been going to car man for almost 3 years now and trust him but it was the article about somebody seeing a fake jbl amp at car man and then me not able to register for warranty. i guess its all sorted out now. my mistake for being impatient!!

@ Sam: bro thanks for your advice. and also i am breathing slow and steady now

@ panky12345: i have also going to sachin for all my ICEing needs but you know a slight doubt is enough to make you lose your heart.

I just can't stop laughing Sam. You are phenomenal!

BTW I'm very happy to know that the fake JBL issue is solved and that too so quickly, courtesy Sam. However you just can't deny the possibility of existence of fakes of audio equipment of this caliber out there in the market with the Chinese flooding the Indian market with fake what not. They don't essentially copy label graphics. What is dangerous is that they make near perfect replicas of branded products that may pass on as originals to the untrained eye.
