6X9 as woofer
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/car-entertainment/49174-6x9-woofer.html)
please advice if my this idea is rather stupid but i am thinking of doing it to save boot space. planing to use the 6x9 4 ways as woofer only by disconnecting the wires going up from woofer cone. how good is this setup whe given subwoofer frequencies? i dont expect great bass but will it give a reasonable output. i would like to have reviews before i try bricking a pair of 6x9s. if this is feasiable which 6x9 should i go for to get the best bass.
Thanks
Check CDT Audio CL-69 or something like it.
But I am not sure if this is available in India...
no need of cutting the tweeter wires, put LPF on!

Exactly if you have an amp going to it just turn the LPF on to something like 50-80Hz.
If you don't have an amp and you have a pio HU you can select rear SP as sub and it will act like an LPF.
I tried the above setup on my car for a long time. Was pretty good but somehow it didn't sound complete as I lost out on midbass. I had only 4" in the front so there was only bass from the back and only vocals from the front.
It is going to be connected to amplifier. subwoofer output from 5.1 setup will be driving it.will the input resistance not change and the will the tweeters not distort if given high volume of subwoofer frequencies?
if you are driving it using an LPF signal, and the amp doesnt distort , then there wont be much HF content for the tweeters to produce in the first place. No, the input resistance wont be affected by the frequency you are feeding it.
to explain it a bit further, yes, tweeters are high resistance ( actually impedance) at high frequencies , and it reduces as the frequency decreases. however, thats what we have crossover networks for :) . the varying impedance of the crossover network compensates for and keeps the impedance of the speaker mostly constant , as far at the amp is concerned
I assume you are going to be running this off your carpc ?
i have experimented with the same but i agree with vid6639 , the sounds seems incomplete.(even though i had 6 inch compos in front)
at least i didnt like it.
use it full range or get a sub
if you really want to save space, why not mount an sub in the baffle where the 6x9's are mounted ?
Yes, its going to be connected to the carpc. need a component set for front, will be picking a JBL stuff (any suggestion?). i have a rockford 400w 12'' subwoofer in box in boot but need to remove it to keep pram and similar stuff. there is already a 60lts lpg tank also in boot.
when the 6x9 were installed few years back ( i didnt know about teambhp and component sets then) the guys in milan subway chiseled out the space for it from the original round space. its a very shabby job and dirty looking from boot. i dont want to cut the remaining structure to put in the 12'' subwoofer since not much metal will be left.
which subwoofer is available in 6'' or 8'' size with good output. will use two of them.
can baleno rear door accomodate a component set?
MY serious suggestion keep the 6x9 and use the sub with the baffle mounted inbetween. it WILL sound good. 6inch and 8inch are still closer to midbass than bass. but if you insist polk momo 8inchers are great. heard em in a friends car a while ago. should still be available.
