Gettin ECLIPSEd..

The wait's finally over ! Just under an year to get things sorted out..and what do I have here ? Well, almost here, that is.. Here's the setup that I'm putting together:

HU: Eclipse CD3200
Front: Rainbow comps
Rear: Rainbow coaxials
Amp: Kenwood 8401
Sub: IDQ 10"

The HU is on the way from the US..should get here in a week. Will wait to gather the rest of the stuff till then

Meanwhile, thought I'd share the setup, and hear if I could do better than this within the same budget..total SQ-oriented.

Is a 10" sub good for the purpose, or will a 12" one be better ? I'm looking at tight, responsive base..less of the 'thump' element.

thanks !

Where is the install going to happen?

It doesnt make much a difference of going for 10" or 12 " if the box is designed to specifications.

Wow! Do you already have the HU with you?
That's one gem of a unit.

Excellent choice of speakers also. I'm a big fan of Rainbow.

Eclipsin along..

Hi.. am back again. Here's some details that I guess I need to fill-in, to be clearer:
  • had spoken to Gunbir BEFORE taking a final decision on the HU; was vacillating between a Pio 700BT and the Eclipse, and he was kind enough to point me in the right direction
  • the car for this setup is a Baleno - @nura and sk456, is this a viable setup, esp considering that you'd (sk456) mentioned that it should be fine IF it's a hatchback.. it's not one, so what d'you say now ?
  • @abhinav.gupta88 - not sure of the install location at the moment.. waiting for the HU to come in by next week, will then start procuring the rest of the stuff. Well, it'll be either Ggn or Delhi..
  • @frankmehta, I guess you could PM Gunbir/JB for details.. I'm not an expert at all, even on where to get Rainbow speakers from. But these are the two persons, as per my limited understanding, who could be of help
  • Gurus, I'm planning to blow up some hard-earned and long-saved money on this.. any advice on improving the setup (within the ame budget) would go a LONG way in helping me. Would request all of you to pitch in..thanks !

Whenever you get the install done, Do inform me, Wanna audition the Eclipse HU.

What series Rainbow speakers are going in?? Rainbow SLX or the higher SLC??

I think you should get a 12" Sub, The Baleno is a Sedan with a Boot, The 10" will not do justice.

Well everything looks great but how do you intend to power your sub?I dont think the 8401 is going to do any justice to such components.

I agree. Do you plan to have a monobloc for the sub. Else I suggest you upgrade the amp to, say a JBL 1004.

dude, i feel the head unit is not that great even though its an eclipse. its the semi entry level unit from eclipse(the 1200 is the entry level unit, whose sq is not worth many words)
the 5100/5200 is the mid level unit from eclipse, which is the one to go for, if you want to utilize the maximum potential of the higher end rainbows.
getting an eclipse 3200 is like getting a mid end pioneer model, with a really bad interface (that eclipses are famous for, but are forgiven because of their mind numbingly real sound quality)
if you go online and check, there are quite a few people that have returned their 3100's for 5100's or 5200's.
i suggest you try sourcing an eclipse 5100/5200/7100/7200mkII (provided your budget permits you to go for the high end) clarion, or a higher end pio, or even an alpine if it fits your budget.
havent heard anything other than a 5100 so cannot comment, but reading reviews online doesnt speak too much of the 3100/3200 series.
someone please correct me if i am wrong

Ok here's a different take on it. if you have liked the HU take it. though if its coming to you for over 20k i suggest you look at the 988x series alpines or the upperend pioneer. if you are getting the HU please let it be.
second you could consider skipping on the rears and picking up the upper end comps if you drive most of the time and want basically a powerful front soundstage. or just pick up the midend JBL'S or so.
On the amp front you could consider getting one more amp if budget readjustment permits or use the 8401 now to power front and sub and get another amp later.
