Kenwood 8401 vs 8404

As everybody knows, The most VFM kenwood amp KAC-8401 has been replaced in turn by the 8402, 8403 and the latest 8404.

However, the 8404 has a major difference from the other three. Its rated at 50W RMS 4ohm x 4 ch whereas all of the others are 60 W RMS x 4. The other specs ( like bridged power at 4 ohms is 180 W RMS) are all exactly the same. Any reasons for this ?

Does this make the 8401 the better buy or is it overrated ?

Usually, there definitely is a prominent improvement from a version 1 to version 4.

So you want to say that 8401 is replaced by 3 amps 8402,8403,8404 ?

i think i'm confused here,someone please confirm

8401 was replaced by 8402 which was replaced by 8403 and now the latest one is 8404.

since 8404 is rated 50w(rms) x 4,isnt it supposed to be less powerful than 8401.so isnt 8401 better?
please excuse i am a bit new to technicalities of i.c.e

more power doesn't usually means amp is better.

Desi alpine is 250x4 @ 4 ohm, you can't really say its a better amp than the ones discussed here.

Have not used 8404 but 8401 is sure a good amp.

ya thats the sad part,that it used to be offered..cant we have 8401 now?any dealers still left with them here in delhi?
the kenwood india site still shows the 8401.

It sure is an awesome VFM amplifier. I dont think it is available anymore. I had a real real hard time finding one.
