Bose ICE systems

Bose is making ICE for the Ferraris!
To be precise - Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Its called the Bose Media System, and the unit has everything from a 30-gigabyte hard drive to store 200 CDs to proximity detectors to sense when you reach for the control knobs.

In India, I think only the customized Maybachs and Audi's have them.

So one more item in my never ending wish list.

Pretty commonplace features. One is taken in, like the ploy is meant to, by the packaging and the brand names. At least one HU (I forget whether it is a JVC or Clarion or Kenwood model) has the proximity sensing to turn on the panel illumination, which otherwise stays dark.

Ir?

So do these kind of systems have active Infra red on all the time?
Yes- what you said is true- It's just because bose systems have been always expensive and seemingly not that reachable for me- just because I wouldn't blow up that much money on electronics - but then that again was prior to marriage- now my biggest supporter in the electronics purchase front is my wife - who believes- is you wish it- buy it without regrets!. If it's bad- get over it!

I'm definitely going to take her for an eclipse high end audition

its quite an old concept! i remember, my home philips system in 98-99 had a proximity sensor where everytime you moved you hand towards the volume knob, it would hydraulically come out so as to be able to hold it! quite a flop thing and a total gimmick

Would doubt any hydraulic role in that, doc sahab.

External media control

hey- some of the car HU's come with 'External Media Control' as their USP.
What exactly is it?- something hi-fi? or just another fancy term for the old Remote control?

'External Media Control' sounds like a sophisticated way of saying 'can control an iPod' or other PMPs that have a serial port protocol for device control. From the iPod p-o-v it IS remote control - even the protocol is called that.

Cheap and easy Bose for your car!

Excuse if .

Bose 201s make good sense as rear speakers; they come @ less than Rs5000 second-hand and is almost always available. They are currently at series V, older 3 and 4 series would be ideal and should make a better sounding alternative to the usual 3 way ovals.

I had a pair installed in my Omni some 12 years back and it sounded good when played from a Sony HU, a small amp would have got them to sound better.

PS : I consider BOSE crap for home audio ( where the company thinks they belong), but they seem to make sense in cars where space is premium and hifi sound not.

Some pics of 201 from the net.

Bose speakers in mercs

Mercedes S & E classes abroad come with Bose speakers as stock - that much I am sure of!.

I am not sure about the Indian Mercs, In India, I don't think any manufacturer comes out with Bose speakers even in premium segment.
