- Nope, there are no 6x9's in my car. The rear speakers are actually Sony Vx333 home audio boxes capable of handling 120w RMS each @ 6ohms. Even with the current set-up, they are a tad under powered. Please see my other thread here :

The current set-up is as below:

Re: A DIY (Damp It Yourself) story: DynaMat, FonoMat...Yoga-Mat ????

@ganesc

Thanks for digging up a old thread :-) It's been a while since I have been active on Tbhp and had forgotten about this thread.

I guess I was the Yogamat pioneer ! - the first one to experiment with Yogamats.

I was inspired by @adityamunshi's approach of using neoprene + natural rubber sheets. So the original credit for this DIY experiment goes to him.

I opted for Yogamats since they are easy to buy and easy to work with.

The DIY was done in Dec 2008 and we are in the first of Jan 2014... so the Yogamats have been doing their job for 5+ years !

Summary:
- No complaints. The Yogamats are working fine for 5 years.
- The same audio set-up (speakers + amps) is still functional, so the home-speakers-in-a-car DIY has been working fine for 10+ years (My current car itself is 8+ years old and the setup was running in my previous cars too.)

I did see that a number of other Tbhp'ians have also used Yogamats and everyone seems to be happy with the results. (Some users seem to have gone on a damping spree and used Yogamats on several cars!). So the idea has been validated by several other users.

And, Yogamats are still easily available in almost all supermarkets. So go forth and DIY (Damp-It-Yourself) :-)

Regards,
Sanjay

Extra set of heavy rubber floor mats? - has anyone used these for damping and deadening sound and noise coming from engine below?

Floor is crucial I think, because engine and tyre noise both come from there

This external thread seems to show success

Depends on the vehicle. The more expensive cars would have at least some damping on the floor.
