With a 4 incher, I'd say 125Hz max. (this still needs an amp in the equation)

PS: I'll ask the hermit to give you some long lasting lessons.
sorry for the inadvertently wrong advice my bad! hpf and lpf were always a mystery to me!

4050UB (Grey) - 5.9k
GTO 938 - 4k
GTO GT5-S204 - 1.5k

In GTO 938, i was told there are two versions- One local for about 2.7k, and original for 4k. [/quote]

That's funny, i must have got the one in the middle, for 3.2k. lol
4050ub slightly expensive man, or maybe prices have gone up, i got 5050ub for 5.7k

Elegant Lajpat Nagar.

Buttt,
A bit of a bummer guys. Day before yesterday i was trying out the install, and found that the front speakers have cracking sound (the sound characterized by phattt..phatt.. :-( ). Now this is certainly not i wanted. Not only this, after my car got back from service station yesterday, the cracking sound was observed from the rear right speaker as well, this time more prominent and irritating indeed.

I trust JBL as a brand, i suspect this has something to do with wiring, and nothing wrong with the speakers. What say people? Should i revisit the installer?

Probably bad wiring / earthing. Do visit the installer.

Edit:- did any of the installers tell you that "JBL is required only if you go in for amplifiers, etc" and such non-sense? At least two people told me that while I was searching for my ICE.

I had gone to the installer today to rectify the cracking of front speakers. He said that it was due to HPF set to 0. The front dash cannot handle that much bass hence cracking sound. On turning to 63MHz, the cracking disappeared.

did you turn all the mega bass , bass eq etc all back to zero and re tune it like we said ?

I've heard a lot of cars with 4" infront and 6x9's behind -JBL GTOs, Blaupunkt BG series, even fake pioneers , and none of them crackled with LPF set to zero, except in case of defective speakers or bad installations.
I think some thing's wrong. those JBL's should be able to handle it ( or are the GT5's that puny?)
If possible , try swapping in some GTO's instead, and see if they crackle

One thing that i might add, theey did not use the wiring that came with the speakers. When i asked him why, he replied that the original car wiring is of much better quality.

Yess!!! usually car wiring is pretty good and consealed with proper installation/colour combination layout, the quality is better than some cheap wannabe 16awg wires which have more sleeve and less copper inside
