My ALTO ICE Setup : Need Advice

Hello T-Bhp'ians,

I recently got my Alto Iced from Bafna Cars in Pune.
My Setup is :

Head Unit : JVC KD-G646 - 7k.
Front Speakers : JBL GT5-S204 - 1.5k.
Rear Speakers ; JBL GT5-S396 - 3.5 k.

I was actually going to fit the GTO 938 but the Dealer was out of Stock. He had only GT-S396 and GTO 947. I took a demo of both of them in my Car.
Did not find a lot of difference in both of them. So, went ahead with the GT5-S396 and saved 1k. I still told him that i would prefer GTO 938. He has told me to use the GT5-S396 for some days and if i am not satisfied with the sound, he will replace it with a GTO 938 once he has it in stock. I am pretty happy with my Setup. It sounds good. Should i replace it with GTO 938 if he offers it?

Need suggestions from you guys on my ICE Setup.
Also please help me out with the Head Unit Audio Settings for the best Sound Output.

You got a good deal. The 947 is suposed to be brighter than the 938. If you like the 396 over the 947 you mgith prefer the 938 over the 396 it is very possible. Try it out. Let us know.

Hello Guys, I have a Query regarding swapping my GT5 S396 Rear Speaker with the GTO 938. The GT5 S396 is 4 Ohm and GTO 938 is a 2 Ohm Speaker. I read on the Internet that for getting the best sound output from 2 Ohm Speakers, an Amplifier is necessary else it will not sound good. I DO NOT have any plans of fitting an Amplifier or a Woofer in my Alto. My Setup would be only 2 Front and 2 Rear Speakers. So, should i consider replacing my GT5 Speaker with the GTO 938. My Head Unit is JVC KD G646 which i believe has only 1 Pre-Out. I am a newbie regarding ICE and Car Audio.
Guys, please throw some light on this. Shud i go for GTO 938?
If the GTO 938 will sound great, i will replace it asap.

ssh...if you look closely you will notice that the 938 is closer to 3 ohms thatn 2 ohms. that said while a 2 ohm speaker will draw more power (read as current) from your amplifier and hence play a little louder it may also stress the amp more. in any case the 938 can be satisfactorily used without an amplifier.

I finally swapped the JBL GT5 S396 with the JBL GTO 938. And i must say GTO 938 ROCKS and is way ahead of GT5 S396. The Sound Quality and Bass is Amazing. However, i have a couple of Questions and would like to get some input from you guys.

1) The Car Dealer did not change the Speaker Wires. He used the GT5 S396 Speaker Wires to power the GTO 938. The told that both of them are the same. Is it OK?

2) I do not know how to operate the Tweeter switch on the Speaker. It says the Range is from 0 db to -3 db. What does this actually mean and how does it affect the Performance? There is no information about it in the Manual.

yep, its ok for the purpose. jbl supplies decent wiring with the 396/938.

keeping it on 0 will give the treble a boost and make the music sound brighter. the tweeter switch is situated on the speaker, but i feel its better left at -3. my opinion, not necessarily a compulsion. you should experiment and see what you like according to your tastes.

I have been browsing T-BHP Forums since a long time but nowhere did i see even a mention of the JVC KD G646 Head Unit which i fit in my Car. I was on a Budget so did not want to spend a lot on the Head Unit. Wanted a decent unit and Good Speakers. I had an Option between this JVC Unit and the Sony 470u. Took the JVC upon the Dealer's Recommendation. None of the Pioneer Models were available with B&W as they were going to introduce new Models. My JVC Unit offers good Sound Quality but Radio Reception is not that Good.
Has anyone here heard or used this Head Unit and know how it fares?

Ask someone to check the antenna connection from antenna end to the HU pin.
