A person who does not want too much brightness.

Gurus please advise...
Yes. Even I expected people who own the GT5-A604 amp will come forward and share their experiences, but I think the no. is very few, atleast on tBHP.

Well as I earlier quoted, I am pretty happy with the performance of this amp, for the price I paid for it. I have not auditioned a 8401, so cannot comment on the comparison. If someone has auditioned these two amps on the same setup (same set of speakers and HU) please share your opinion.

As per me, the brightness factor is dependent more on the HU and the speakers. The amp itself might not make the sound signature bright and also, the brightness can be toned down by the right tuning. I have mated the amp with a Pio 5050 HU and GT5 series speakers, and the sound is anything but bright even at high volumes. Personally even I dont prefer a bright sounding system.

Sub JBL GT5 S12 1200w
MTX 6"x9"

sound form the speakers is good and clear, even at high volume.

problem - the sub-woofer is not firing - its too soft
bass boost is set at 75% and i don't know how to set Lpf and hpf.

help required please
after going through some other members similar problem, i check my own setup and had a little DIY yesterday evening.

the fault was found in the wiring of the GT5 A604, by "Sai Auto glass and accessories" at milan subway lane.. - their installation was really clean and effective but, didn't expect a major wiring fault.

The woofer was wired on the front speakers, which doesn't have a bass boost support. i rewired the entire amp and also all the setting as per mentioned in this forum. all's fine now and my woofer is really pumping.

coming to the JBL GT5 A604 - i have been using it to power a pair of MTX 6"x9" very effectively for a year now and am very happy with the SQ.

Now its powering my JBL GT5 S12 1200w woofer very well too and i am very happy of its VFM.

Jbl Gt5 664

Sorry to have hijacked the thread a bit..
I just Installed the JBL Gt5 664 Amp in my ride y'day. Its powering a Illusion Electra 6.1 comps in the front & the JBL GTO 947 Ltd ed in the rear. No sub as yet. The whole wiring was re-done & the Amp + Installation +Wiring costed 9K.
Done by Satya (Blueraven) The setup is sounding crisp and clear tuned mainly for the front..
Hope Sam 's passed on the discount to him!

I had the same experience and corrected it the next day, when I had my 1205 BT/GT5-A604 setup with the cheap Boss wiring .
I had extended listening sessions with this amp powering JBL GTO607s and the BT, and never had any issues with it. It has enough weight that made me think that the build quality is also good.
This amplifier is a nice budget amp. I used it for nearly 2 months and exchanged for a monoblock.

My Take

ive heard the GT5 604 . its a good amp.( I dont know about the brightness when its coupled with pioneer HU)
i heard it with a kenwood HU and gt5 range speakers and it sounded forward but decent
The only reason i can think of that this amp is not discussed much here is because the Kenwood 8401 and Blau Gt4 mk2 whatever are cheaper by a few hundered rupees(grey market)
and people may find that VFM

However i think they may be worth the 800-1000 or so bucks more unless you prefer the laid back sound of the 8401 ( that is not everyones cup of tea as found out by arapindev)

Thanx for correcting me Sam,
JBL is competing with Nokia in the naming of Model No's
So Confusing.
Its Indeed the Evolved JBL GT5 S644 from the JBL GT5 A604

Anything thats distinctly different from the 604 Sam?
I am just using the same EQ settings with low gain thats set by Sathya.
It was the first S644 that he did, So maybe he can tell the difference if any.
He said the S644 is just another marketing gimmick, maybe Sam can correct that statement.

Why should I? Satya is entitled to his opinion.

However the S644 offers a little more power than the A604 and has some improvements and is sold almost at the same price. That's a great marketing gimmick anyways.
