Price of 785 has gone up to 217.89$ on amazon - this is absolutely unbelievable... could have made a fortune trading in this HU :)

Yes, but its still available cheaper at Sonic - $140 (Clarion DXZ785USB In-Dash CD Receivers with MP3 / WMA Playback In-Dash Car Stereo Receivers and Head Units Car Audio and Video - Sonic Electronix) and Ugotadeal.com - $169 (DXZ785USB - CLARION DXZ-785USB CD/MP3/AAC USB/AUX CAR RADIO DXZ785USB - UGotADeal.com). Dont understand why there is such a big price fluctuation at Amazon!

The product is discontinued and hence not available at Newegg. Previously, it was the cheapest here for quite a few weeks.

katpasin, get the 785. Once you have TA you cant go back.

+1. You may feel that I am exaggerating but a sub without TA is just a sub. TA in needed to make it part of the music.

yeah agree - but sonic charges a good amount of shipping also comes close to 155$ :) it's that the older stocks on amazon are getting over & it's the more expensive sellers with whom it is available...

The one on the earlier links ( posted by techno which increased to 140 from 130) has jumped to 217$.

Its gaining popularity.

Nah, the fluctuation is because Amazon displays not just its own prices, but also of it's partner merchants. The $129 was Amazon's own price, but they ran out of stock. I remember seeing a "2 items left, order now" tag on the page at that time, but I ignored it thinking it to be a pressure sales gimmick. Now I know it was true... and I feel like an idiot missing out like that :Frustrati
Anyway, once Amazon ran out, the next best price was displayed, which was $139, then $169 and now it's $217 (being sold by the online merchant, "DependableResource").

I am wondering if I should take the plunge and buy it on sonic. $139.99 is a super price, but the 17-odd bucks shipping is bull. I mean, the same site is offering free shipping on a RF sub!
$157 means under 8k INR. Still a great price for this HU. Should I go for it, or wait it out a bit longer to see if prices go down on Amazon....??

I'd say go for it.
No point waiting.
Otherwise this price may also shoot up.

Check out the least available price from Google Product Search

Then buy. Why pay extra when history shows that the reasonable price is around $130-150

The $130 that's still showing up on Google Products is over a week old and no longer valid. That was Amazon's price last week, which is currently $217. I guess Google needs to update prices more regularly.

The cheapest I could find was on sonicelectronix: $139.99 plus 17-odd shipping - so around $157. I'll give it a couple of days or so, and then go for this deal.

If someone comes across a better deal, please do post it on this thread.

Yes, even I noticed that the lowest price was being displayed as $130, but when I clicked on the link (Amazon) it took me to the latest page ($217). Do check that it should be a new piece and not a factory reconditioned/refurbished one.

From my little experience, apart from Google product search (froogle), here are other general shopping search engines that return good results-
thefind.com, pricegrabber.com and probably the most popular ebay.com (google itself shows "search on ebay" button). Using exact model numbers rather than generic keywords seems to perform more exhaustive search.

Took the plunge and bought the Clarion 785 today from sonicelectronix.com. Cost me $139.99 plus $17.66 shipping, so a total of $157.65. That is roughly 7850 INR, which I feel is a great price for this HU. Missed out on the amazon deal a while back which would have saved me about 1350 INR. Oh well... :(
But, this is a discontinued item, so didn't want to wait around too much.
Will get my hands on it sometime next month :)
