a. he was using 1 GZ plutonium sub earlier when he clocked 150+, 140+ was with GZ hydrogens X 2.

b. SPL is not as simple as it appears.. anybody can surf a couple of websites, get technical info but when it comes to numbers (SPL), practical approach is needed.

as regards prcatical approach let LBM (the winner) describe it better.

Congrat LBM on your db drag win. With all humility I never thought I'd meet a man madder than myself until you appeared.

Karan, to achieve 140+db cleanly it not diffcult but you have to observe many rules of car audio and understand their limitations. The car needs to be damped, the car's power supply needs to be capable, the subwoofer boxes need to be correctly designed, the amps and processors need to be tuned and set to be operating within the safe working limits, ...the list is quite long.

Whoa! Before we get carried away, lets consider some facts:

- There was no scheduled "dB Drag" event held. "dB Drag" is a licensed event. Since I know the event in question had no affiliation to the official event (except using the official meter), I would advise everyone not to use the term "dB Drag" loosely.

It was a small unadvertised event, of which the spl competition was a very small part, and most of the people who participated were of the forum. Calling one's car "The loudest" or "The second loudest car in North India" would be a bit immature I feel.

For one, there are cars with louder systems around. I know of at least two cars with the Kicker Solo X 18" sub and at least 5000w RMS in North India. Since the competition was not known to such people, and it was at best a closed group event with no rules or classifications, let's call it what it was. Whatever it was, it wasn't a "dB Drag"!

Correction Gunbir jee.
LBM got 144dB.
Vineet verma was 4th with 138.5 in his santro powered by a GZ Hydrogen(12") single.
Would post the pics with the figures in sometime.

I think there are soem seriuos rules regarding DBdrag...which could be found below:

dBDRA Rules - Master Index

Im not sure how many of them were followed. Especially regarding Street class rules.

Thanks Abhinav. I remember seeing 143.8dB when he tested his own car. Did he do another reading after that? If I'm not wrong, he only did one reading on all the other cars...

OK so it was not an official "db Drag". I used the term loosely and did not mean to call it an official "db Drag".

I did not even know that LBM won an "event". I thought panky was refering to his SPLed Swift and kidding.

So it seem that some ICE installer had a competition of 7-8 cars and they measured the SPL of these cars one of which was LBM. Gunbir if you hark back to the 70s this how these sort of event really started out (before the manufacturers and big corporate money was involved).

In fact drag racing too started out as a sort of underground phenomenon (in the 1930s) until the early 1950s when promoters turned old air strips into drag strips.

So instead of berating LBM I beleive he should be congratulated no matter how small the event (as long the event was fair and organised by somebody other than the products LBM deals in).

Sir, I think you misunderstood. I didn't berate anyone. I was just calling it like it is.

I am quite pleased about the event as we need more such events. Kudos to the organizers who worked hard and spent money to make it happen. And congratulations to everyone who participated. Hopefully we will have more of these events in the future and slowly the level of awareness and skill will improve. The "db Drag" rules are very advanced and it will be a while before we can have official "dB Drag" events.

It was a learning experience for all. There were some there with decent equipment and they realized that throwing money at ICE doesn't mean it will sound or measure well. Getting a high SPL score is the goal, but big moolah doesn't necessarily get you there.

We all expected LBM to win. After all, he was the only guy there who prepared for the event. I guess pretty much everyone else was in a daily driver with their everyday system.

All in all it was a good day and lots of fun for both the participants and the spectators.

Yes, it did. Not a typo.

The 2 x 15" were in Infinite Baffle. Each was getting 900w or so. But put them in a box and make it a ported one. Any guesses how loud that would make it theoretically?

What the hell was this.140 out of 600W.Thats it!!

Now this is impressive.You can bring all of your 10KW Amps and 15KW Subs and get only slightly more than this.

Lol.I'm really laughing now.I guess this car must have made some faces Red.lol.

Now i understand the comments by others made in this thread.You need a practical approach.thats how you get that number out of 600W.

An that too from a car that big in size.Someone had commented that smaller cars make more Spl.Lol.
