Correct, i did an extensive TD of the i20 before buying the i10. The i20 is sluggish.

Hyundai cars have great A.S.S and are easy to ICE but..
a) need a lot of damping
b) have insipid engines

The i20/Fabia/Jazz/etc.. (premium hatchs) are all underpowered. This has to do with the lower excise duty on engines below 1.2L (petrol) or 1.5L (diesel guess who had a 1.4L diesel engine and a lot of political clout).

I do expect that about 2-3 years from now manufacturers will have a 1.2L TPi engine that puts out in excess of 100bhp and is reliable. Mahindra-Renault might be the first out with this option on the Sandero.

A nice car to ice would be the old superb. i bet you can get it for around 9. lots of space to play around a nice cabin and dash and good plastics but then we have other threads that i do not want to start on again.

then again even the pajero wide body is something from the second hand lot i would like to see fully decked out. i don't think it will need a lot of work.

I believe Frank has ruled out used cars.

true, used cars are out! anyways, this research can take as long as it can! since we have 3 long months before we take a call on it. keep posting, guys. as of now the likely list looks like the one i posted earlier, but with one very important addition. thats the getz crdi. the spacious interiors, the kickbutt of an engine and the otherwise stiff body panels tilt me in its direction. not to forget about the fact that AMEY has been raving about it and even penned songs on the ways she drives. hmmm. i like!

But you can't fit an 8" midbass in it, and neither can he

ive asked B&T and he says no cars can accommodate an 8" midbass in their doors without any modification. this time im not game for a single thing that makes the car look 'unstock.' And anyways the 6.5" Luccent midbasses do it totally right for me :-) so im good with a stock 6.5" slot.

You forgot the polo. It has a TSi for either the 1.2 or the 1.4

1. Linea
2. i20
3. Getz CRDi
4. Ford Fiesta 1.6Sxi (the aquarius blue one!)

-I think these are the choices available for the best car to be ICED. my only hassle is that the Blue & Me that comes in the Linea (emotion pack) is a very difficult thing to get rid off. Hence the emotion pack will not be chosen, IF i am buying the Linea. Also, the stock locations for Linea: Do they allow 6.5" speakers without any modification or cutting???

-Waiting for any announcement on the i20 CRDi automatic, if there is one!

- The Getz CRDi is now old, but if the i20 CRDi doens't come in good time, then we might have to get it.

- Does the Fiest accommodate 6.5" speakers in the door recesses? Can someone confirm????

They do. Helped ICE a friend's linea yesterday.
But, rears can take a 5.25" max without cutting the door pad.

about the front doors: thank you nitrous! you are the man!!!!!!!
i dont think i am too bothered about the rear doors.
my car is never going to get rears. my head unit is a dead-head. and i dont want to waste 2 channels of amplification on crappy rear fills. I would rather do an active setup with those 2 extra channels! :-P

Maybe in a couple of weeks' time you'll add the Grande Punto to the list. Should probably be ideal for you requirements.

You can with the use of spacers, there are a few installs with 6.5" speakers. The stock size is 5X7, And the stock grill also goes well with this size.

Hey Frank. Yes Fiesta can accommodate 6.5 as i already have my Hertz paying beautifully in my Fiesta. Only thing is that you would need to have spacers built and that's it, they will fit easily.
