ICE on a shoestring

Hi,

The Car's: i10
The budget's: ~8k
The shortlist's: Pio 2190 HU
+ JBL Real speakers in the rear parcel tray

It's all coming for a shade over 8k (with B&W and installation/wires) -- from a big shop with no name in Noida Sec 16 run by two fatsos

I drive alone 99% of the time. Is it better to go for rear speakers or in the front door?

Please advice if I can do better for this price.

Thanks

Based on your budget go for front JBL GT5 co-axial speakers. The HU is OK.

contact smokin from the forum. You can go to performance zone. Get a pioneer head unit and some coax or maybe even components. Jbl 608c is another option you have.

If you drive, it is better to have speakers in the front. All the sound coming from the rear sounds spooky.

They are not really giving you a good bargain. Ask around in other shops near you - perhaps you will get a good deal elsewhere. Ask for a pair of components in front. Get components even if you have to buy a Sony HU to fit it in your budget (don't buy Sony speakers, though).

Better go for 5k compo(front) + Pioneer/Kenwood HU - 4-5k + 1k for install.

<From the glossary section>:

What is compo?

Shrt form for component. A component set is a set of speakers where you get 2 mid woofers (generally 5.25" or 6"), a crossover network and a pair of tweeters. These sound ver..

</From the glossary section>

For an i10, what size comps should I go for?

Well it depends on the size of the stock speaker locations. Generally 4n to 5.25 normally fit. Do read up a few threads here. I am sure there must be a few i10 ice threads

spitfire that's a good One. Unexpected and funny. .

Front speakers anyday.

Your ears hear things from front clearer than from back.

And regarding bass - I have observed that usually by putting on the back parcel tray, you tend to create a resonant space - which makes the bass really boomy. Not at all musical.
Infact it might also cause nausea.

Music is not all bass, baba. Decent components in front door give just a hint of bass, and ovals at the back give a bigger hint. If you really want bass, go the whole hog - get a sub and all.

Go step by step instead of making the 'shoestring budget' the do all and end all. Otherwise, you will get something which you can neither keep nor throwaway - it is called 'being penny-wise and pound-foolish'.

6.5" component speakers easily fits the i10 front and rear doors without any cutting though a little bit cuuting of plastic on the inside door panel may be rquired, not an issue at all.

Or even if there is an issue of cutting, you may use a spacer if necessary.

Thanks much

I'll go for JBL 6.5 inch comps in front (any specific model recommendations?)

and Pio/Kenwood/Sony (whichever's cheapest) HU

No intentions of any additions anytime soon. So, I have no problems with a non-upgradable set-up
