I too saw some stuff that had a MB Quart logo on them but they did not look like MBQ and theprice was way too cheap (first indication). I did not even know MBQ had a brand worth faking in India.

My ICE installer says that you need an amp for fitting componet speakers.

Is this true?

?
the qualites of a component will be better exploted by a good amp but many Hus can driev a component well if loud levels are not expected.

Crutchfield do not sell fakes, and just because something is cheap it's not necessary that it's fake, MB Quarts went out real cheap till around a year ago and sometimes even now due to the company selling out few years ago etc etc.

Though, that does not imply fake MBQs are not around, I have seen a tonne of those Fake MBQs in Bangalore, and suggest people to be very careful, especially the compos with the Blue Box
I even know who is importing the spurious stuff and selling at retail prices, don't want to name them here.
I saw a batch of sure shot fake Kicker also enter the market last month, so almost every mainstream brand has some fake somewhere in the city. I had heard about some fake JBL speakers too, but have not seen any with my own eyes till now, so, that might be a rumour considering the abundant availability scene of JBL everywhere.

Aha!

So that explains why I can now suddenly see Kicker speakers littered around various audio shops even in my city --> Ludhiana.

Regarding fake JBL, have seen fake RC leads, and latest one being a complete JBL box that had everything in it. From power cables to RC leads to installation stuff and the finish was good enough to fool 99% of the buying public there. Had I not known better, I would too believe it to be an official Made-by-JBL product....
