Which subwoofer to go for?

I have recently installed the following MP3 system in my car:

Head Unit: Sony CDX-R5610

Rear speakers: Sony XPLOD XS-GT6947X (4 way)

Front speakers: Sony XPLOD XS-GF1021X

The sound is OK, but being an Altec Lansing ATP3 user, i notice that the BASS is not that prominent... (although it is quite tight..)

Which Subwoofer brand/model i should go for?.. Sony/Pioneer/JBL/ any other..

My budget is around 2.5-3k...

P.S. What is Altrec3 plus.. ??.. my HU supports Altrec3 plus format..

Atrac3plus

Atrac3plus

Short for "Adaptive TRansform Acoustic Coding 3 plus", ATRAC3plus is an enhancement of ATRAC3 incorporating advanced audio compression technology. This latest technology analyzes longer periods of audio signals to obtain more precise information of the input signals and also introduces a newly developed algorithm that achieves optimal bit allocation for a wide range of audio signals. As a result, high quality sound is achieved at high compression levels of 1/20 the original sound source.

Check this website:

http://www.sony.net/Products/ATRAC3/tech/atrac3plus/
We can inlcude upto 490 songs per cd. This cd needs to be written by Sonicstage software which encodes the files to atrac3 format. The encoding will take some 2-3 hours. The atrac3 discs are playable only in select Sony products

Since most of u r setup is sony ... i'd recommend the Sony Xplod woofer too......thats the one i have too.....mine is 800 watts, got it around 3 yrs back so i dont quite remember the model or price but the punch is excellent.....i remember it was priced similar to the pioneer 600watts woofer and i compared the bass of both and the sony one had a better feel.

try to go for the pioneer 306 DVC one. fits ur budget too.
btw atrac3 plus is sony's proprietery compression technology. it compresses ur usual 5-6 mb mp3 to almost 2 mb.
its time consuming but worth the time.

Hi decite..check Kicker subs, gives you good thump or if you are interested check "earthquake"..good low frequency!! chest thumping bass..but you will require a proper amplifier to get the max from the sub.
