Good screen but its looking slightly big to me. I have doubts if it will go under a double din without fiberglass work.

You are sure going to have tough time putting the opus 360 (186mm x 96mm x 18mm) in winsis case with 200w psu(265mmx90mmx270mm).

I know, but there aren't too many choices, as this is the max size I can get under the seat!!!
There is at least 100mm overlap between the PSU and the Mobo. I am hoping that there will be enough vertical space available to allow the overlap, else I might have to look at a separate enclosure for the PSU.

May be then you can mount the psu on the top cover inverted rather than on the default psu area. overlap will be taken care of then.

Nice going there.

Hello OP

Well for beginning, I have gone through all the posts. I am also in process of making a Car PC and just like you I am also stuck at the damn thing called monitor.

I am not convinced at all with the options available there, agreed, you get what you pay for. But yeah, cant pay all the bunch for it. My home ministry will surely frown.

Monitor is something that will be visible to everyone and if its not good enough, I am sure I will be laughed at all the efforts made.

So question to all the posters being:

Isn't there any monitor that gives decent visibility inside car? Let keeps the touchscreen part aside, I am planning to use a MCE remote for same. Nothing's out there?

If you leave touchscreen aside, there are plenty of screens with even upto 1000nit brightness. And then you can do upgrades like change your backlight etc. It will be darn cheap too. But do you really want to have a carputer without a touch screen? Using a remote will not be safe while driving your car!

Please let me know the options, I have been searching for quite some time now. If its from US, then a friend is flying back in couple of weeks, I can hopefully order through him.

Very true, hence I wont be handling it, it would be used by someone who is using the entertainment. I will be ofcourse driving. Also the remote makes sense cause the back seater dont have to ask someone to change any options.

Thanks for the reply.

for non touchscreen version you can have a look at this option from usa for 115$. i dont think there can be a better offer but grab it as for ltd time only.
U70 7in LCD widescreen secondary monitor, VGA monitor screen USB display
it has usb power and source input, alternately vga is also retained if usb dont suite the requirement.

Well you can have another touchscreen installed in rear also
I am contemplating having second touchscreen for rear so that my wife can control, but also worried it will become a toy for the kids...

No haven;t done it yet.
That would be the last step when the computer is all setup and ready to go in the car. I really doubt it would fit, I don;t expect it to.

I am looking for a good rear view camera, any options with prices?

From a couple of threads at 8thCivic, an 8.4" screen is a perfect fit for the OEM navi bezel. If the 2DIN facia adapters we get are a clone of this bezel (which they probably are), you might actually have no problems fitting the LCD in - you might have to make some sort of bezel edge in case it is actually too small.

Re: cameras - I've seen rear cameras for JVC and Alpine units. They were both simple RCA output cameras, so they might be easy to wire in. Prolly expensive though - brand names.
