Recommend car audio to buy from Singapore

All,

My friend is travelling to Singapore, and I want him to buy a GOOD car audio for me. I guess getting car CD player from Singapore will be little cheaper and will be genuine. I have booked Swift ZXi. Once I have the player, will buy the speakers here in Bangalore.

Please give me your recommondations on this ASAP.

its not just about selecting one.you have to first state your prefrences likes and dislikes needs and most importantly your budget.

do you want a cassete player(outdated now) or just a cd player or one which plays mp3 also? are you looking for a cd changer too ??

Budget : 10 - 15 K.
Taste : I have very good ears for good music (strings, jazz, etc). Every string pulled should be heard with same intensity. I don't know if I can afford one in this budget.

What is the cost of Nakamachi? And are they good in car stereos?

I am looking for CD player (no cassette) only, and I don't mind loosing MP3 option (NO PIRACY PLEASE).

mp3 does not equate to piracy. You can buy the CDs and then rip them for personal use. Also you can buy songs after paying online. and 10-15K is a lot. Go for one of the Sony Xplodes and get BOSS/Pioneer speakers.

tsk1979: I agree with you, MP3 is not piracy. But on the way, given a option, somewhere, sometime, one will gets off the track, which I want to avoid for myself.

Looking at the responses, looks like, buying the player in singapore is as good as in India. Right?

I started this thread to see if anyone can suggest a player which is really really good one (well, keeping budget in mind), and on top of it, if I buy in Singapore, it will be definately cheaper. If it costs 15K in India, may cost 10K in Singapore!!!

Selective, considering your music choices, there are several options.

If you are looking for a CD-player only, there are several, including the Pioneer 5750 and models in the 6000 and 8000 series as well.

My suggestion is a double-din in-dash player. You should get several options in Pioneer. I've recently fitted a JVC XC838 double din player. It has excellent adaptability for its price. Worth a dekho.

Nakamichis are good for the kind of music that you seem to enjoy. Unfortunately, the prices are on the higher side. You just might get a basic Nakamichi CD player within your budget of 15k.

Also, considering your music tastes, go for JBL 6x9 GTO series speakers or equivalent ones from Blaupunkt. They are extremely good at instrumental and jazz kind music, low and mid treble wonder speakers.

in case u wanna go for a high end head unit like the ones from alpine/nakamichi/blaupunkt etc., i would suggest u get them from singapore..but if u are going for the basic ones like pioneer 4/5750 or the sony ones, u can buy those in india at almost a very small difference of price..
btw i would really suggest u to get the speakers from singapore, as there is a flood of duplicate speakers in india. also u may get some research and get some other brand of speakers other than pioneers...it would be worthwhile. also getting the good-quality wires would also prove much cheaper than getting them from here.

before you order check out www.crutchfield.com i use this site a lot. look for stuff in under $250. you should get a good stereo with sub outs and MP3 capability and 4V pre outs for $250. that will be about rs. 10K. when it comes to ripping MP3s if you need help let me know. I would recomend the alpine 9830 ( beware of it if you are used to constantly playing around with the tone controls) or the JVC Aresenal 860 (i like the looks but then I am wierd) or Sony CDX 7715. also sites like caraudio.com and carstereo.com and onlinecarstereo.com have forums that you can get feedback from.

What you guys think about Namakamichi CD 300? Check it out at www.nakamichi.com. But the price of this is not known! :-(

amitverma: You pointed it right. I guess we get fake speakers here and original CD receivers. I am thinking, instead of getting CD player, I can get the speakers from Singapore! :-)
