Re: Online Purchasing.

hmmm..... so why isn't anyone doing anything about it?

i guess trade margins do not allow expensive pay offs to payment gateways. cos like rediff, indiatimes, ebay generate huge volumes allowing them very low transaction costs as they are not restricted to car audio. in fact ebay used to have many car audio dealers/stores, they've also disappeared. logistics, courier costs, inter-state trade, brand alignments and protocols are impediments. in fact many ebay sellers DO NOT ship to West Bengal.

building a website as exhaustive as crutchfield or likes is a daunting task, requiring huge capital. a wise man would be better off buying a small shop, earning from it, while the real estate prices double up in 3-4 years.

most good dealers are available via phone, their own website or FB pages. no reason for them to invest in something where a simple internet bank transfer helps dispatch their products anywhere in the country. (though that's a very short sighted view). they obviously can help source other stuff as well.

buying car audio n accessories is not like buying a book/dvd or an iPod. it needs hear, see, touch, feel. many a times a trial.

websites like naaptol guide you to shops n websites where stuff is available cheap. off late, future bazaar might change the trend, though they advertise a free hard disk worth 6000 on a laptop that's plainly available for 2800.

in my experience, i have been able to get stuff much below ebay best deals prices as well... it may not be possible in other cities, but delhi and mumbai are hubs. pick up any computer accessory, it'll be cheaper at nehru place than on ebay or any site.

but keep watching this space! it's time there's at least a reference catalogue on the web, if not a site from which you can buy.

Like J. Crew, Tweeds or Land's End (clothing), Crutchfield started out as a catalog store in the same vein as Sears (whch however was supported by a brick and mortar network).

yes, it wouldn't work without a brick and mortar support. i don't know why the biggies aren't doing anything about it, cause this won't work unless it's a joint effort. crutchfield is an authorised e-seller for all brands it puts up. they give install coupons, so a person can get things installed at a store or by a pro. when i was at it, i got huge support from B&T, BBW, Kumars... n many more in business. 2 websites crashed, and it's an irony now that we make huge websites for clients but there's simply no time to follow up on our own, call it ghar ki murgi daal barabar!

Completely in agreement.
Take the case of Petes as an example. They have an online store with good customer support (I wrote to them for a Manza and Verito Pete and they came back in less than 24hours) and this is backed by on the ground brick and mortar support as well. I guess it needs a bit of dedication to get things running. I'm sure there's a market for online shopping in India if issues of credibility and support are comprehensively dealt with.

Re: Best Car Accessories/ ICE Online Store.

I found these searching the internet. But couldn't find any user experience report. So not sure if they are reliable and authentic. If anyone has any experience buying from them, please post:

1. Car Audio System Packages, Sony Car Stereo Systems, GPS Car Navigator, Car Perfume
2. Online Car Accessories Shop, Car Care Center (Car Portal for Car Customization) Car Accessories Delhi, India Online Car, Care Products(Accessories) like Car Perfumes, Gurgaon, Ludhiana, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana

Note: These two are unrelated though the names bear carplus in common.
