Decision!!

So finally, impulse took over research!

I came across the wonderfully spec-ed RF amp that I mentioned yesterday. And voila, a few quick calls and the purchase was made by my friend in US. Got it for $120 and now the long wait to bring it back home!

The features (on paper) are thus:

(I have been told that RF amps are under-rated and I am waiting to see the birth sheet for the actual power rating. Nonetheless, even 400 w x 1 is more than sufficient for my GZ MKII)
  • 2-channel car amplifier
  • 100 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms (200 watts x 2 at 2 ohms)
  • 400 watts RMS x 1 bridged output at 4 ohms (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)
  • variable high- and low-pass filters (40-400 Hz at 12 dB per octave)
  • variable bass boost (0-18 dB at 45 Hz) with wired remote control (bass knob!!)
  • Tri-way capable (Tri-Way crossover required)

Congrats! Nishant. Good Choice, neat looking. RF are well build compared to the kenwood you were planning to pick up.
Am Sure it's gonna hammer your Sub nice and hard

So what happens to comps? Bridge the power of GTA to power them. You will surprised for the way they will sing.

Thanks man! You had seriously got me thinking about the Kenwood amp. But somehow, I am slightly more convinced on the RF. I would like to believe the actual power belted out by this amp would be around 450 w x 1. Perfect for the sub!!

Rather than bridging the channels of the Blau, I am planning to go active. The 785 is anyways designed well enough for active setups.

I wouldn't say 450 but ya, RF amps put out the power they mention, may be few % more. Kenwood Excelon amps are good and almost close to their rated power.

That's a brilliant idea to run them active since I suppose you ain't using anything rear. 2 way active will give you good flexibility on 785. you could set the get gains and xover points from 785 itself, also it could benefit vastly with the TA on that 2 way active setup.

Time to catch up buddy

You know I was toying with the idea of getting the cheapest rear (door) coaxials (JBL GT5 xxx) for Rs 1500 and powering them off the HU. Then somehow decided against it.

BTW, the amp aint with me yet! Will be a long, impatient wait (it will reach B'lore first and I will have to arrange it to be delivered to Mumbai). Will surely catch up in the meanwhile to take inputs on how to go 2 way active on the 785.

But do you mean I can individually TA each channel (i.e tweeters and mid basses separately) on the 785? If yes that would be an ultimate thing.

Whether to get rear coax or not, am sure you will change your mind once you have listen to the setup.

Yes you can Individually TA each channel in active mode. TA can be set to each tweeter and midbass in 3 way Active setup i.e. Highs, Mids, Sub (which is also configured as front, rear, sub in normal mode). Tweeters are connected to 'highs' while the midbass are conncected to 'Mids'.
In this case you can set the freq. point from the HU along with their individual gain and TA. This way you can set precise PLD from each driver as per your listening position. It's icing on the cake.
Thus, better imaging/soundstage.

All wonderful amps but none of them will give you the actual listed power with music - actually, nowhere near what they're listing!

Try for a Tru T4.100 or T2.100 if you want a US amp or USAmps second-hand.

I was browsing on Amazon and shortlisted these models. Can the gurus please advise which one is good?

1. Amazon.com: Clarion DPX1851 850 Watts Maximum Mono Amplifier: Electronics

2. Amazon.com: Clarion DPX2251 2/1 Channel 650 Watt Maximum Amplifier: Electronics

3. Amazon.com: Scosche HD4600 1200-Watt 4-Channel EFX Amplifier: Electronics

4. Amazon.com: Scosche 600c4 100 Watts x 4 Amplifier: Electronics

5. Amazon.com: Clarion APX4361 4/3/2 Channel 640 Watts Maximum Amplifier: Electronics (This one is great but out of my budget)

Pls avoid brands like Boss, Legacy, Lanzar, etc...
You have a good wonderful set of speakers, pls do some justice to them.
Look at Kappa 4, Kenwood XR-4S, Alpine PDX F6, etc...

Lanzar is good for the price and their fuse rating are close to it's power rating.

Full OHT, @invinsible-ji, how does that prove quality of engineering, build or audio?

How about Blaupunkt VPA 4130 PRO. Its available at 13K with out B/W. Seems like old stock. But not opened though. Is rated 130 RMS at 4 ohms * 4 channel.
