In my expereince. Infinty Ref/Kappa, Illusion Carbon (I have not heard the lower range), Morel and Dynaudio. I am told that Rainbow and Hertz Hi-Energy are also laid back but not as much as Dynaudio or Morel.

The Infinity Reference series -- is that really laid back when stock? I know my tweeter mounting IS bad but I found the reference 5010c to be very shrill. Even after 10 months of listening in. I always have my tone defeat ON. I asked stock because, in your case IIRC you have tweaked the XO. I listened to Moral's Illusion components and they were not really laid back, but much better than Infys. Is it just me? Sam?

Infinity by default is laid back, especially in comparison to JBL. What equipment are you using? Sometimes a HU will cause harshness.

My 5010c run directly off Alpine 9830. I specifically chose the 9830 from older batch to get the old time Alpine quality. (I have a 60.4, but it is still not hooked up)

But as mentioned, my tweeters are mounted about a foot above the dashboard which is not the ideal location, but the shrill is a bit too much for extended listening. Should I change the component set (they are still under warranty)? Thanks

A foot above the dash? That is way too high and should be disturbing by default.

I may be wrong, but I generally decide the worthiness of components after connecting them to an amplifier. Why don't you try connecting it to the 60.4 amplifier to see if they sound ok?

My wife's car (sail) has the 6010 in stock location and that location is not at ear level. We still found the tweeters a bit forward. so we just knocked it back a notch. The 5020 might be less forward than the 5010 but given your location the 5020 too might be too bright.

Do i need components ?

Hi Team,

I am planning on a basic ICE system in my Swift to be delivered on Sunday. I have almost finalized on these two things

Pio 4950 HU: I want a steering remote which is available with Pio only (?)/

Rear Speakers: JBL GTO 937, reason being a friend already has them. Used for around 6 months and then upgraded to better ones. So I am buying the same from him for 2 K

My question to the gurus here is : Do i need components for the front ?

- I generally will listen to FM, general music including only soft rock and the likes. I don't listen to hard rock, metal and stuff.

- I an not planning to upgrade the ICE in the near future so it totally rules out getting an Amp, a tube etc.

Does it still make sense to get components for the front ? Will their performance be limited to a large extent in absence of an amp ?

Gurus, please advice

if you sit in the front getting good speakers upfront makes a lot of sense. it improves the soundstage.

if you find yourself pushing the volume past the half way mark get an amp.

Yes, I will be driving most of the time so getting good speakers should be good.

Will rarely push it over the halfway mark so I guess I will not go for an Amp. Plus no vitamin M also .

Confusion remains, Without an amp, will there be a lot of difference in SQ between coaxials and components ? What will be the difference in the cost of two ?

an amplifer improves most speakers, these are noticed in components more than coax becuase the components use better parts. your HU will drive most components fairly well.

There definetly would be a difference between coaxials and components. Comps have more juice and it becomes juicer when driven with an amp. Cost for coaxs in front is approx 2.5K and comps start from 5.5K
