Thanks but you missed the words Commonly understood in my post.

Seem like you have read it, would be glad if you make people aware of these terms through your posts

EDIT: It does mention Bright as a term

this is interesting...

"bright, brilliant The most often misused terms in audio, these describe the degree to which reproduced sound has a hard, crisp edge to it. Brightness relates to the energy content in the 4kHz-8kHz band. It is not related to output in the extreme-high-frequency range. All live sound has brightness; it is a problem only when it is excessive."

It's more like a wiki-entry for describing audio properties. Don'y have the time nor the inclination to filter out "commonly understood" terms from this list.

Yes, it does mention bright as a term and very well explains how it is misused.

midbass The range of frequencies from 40-80Hz.

from the Stereophile link posted by rev_hard.

Now you know LBM why you felt the lack of midbass because the speakers were crossed over (HPF) at 80Hz

My only suggestion to Eddy is to try and hear as many brands as possible.

What is good for LBM, me, Gunbir, JB, rev_hard etc may not necessarily apply to his "tastes".

In doing this, I am sure a lot of Bhpians including those named above will certainly be of help.

In addition to all that has been named, please dont overlook the perennial favorites, i.e. JBL and Infinity. And I'm sure it should not be hard to hear out Blaupunkt, Alpine, Pioneers etc.. basically, as many as you can.

quite true- what each of us calls flat is slightly different. from my experience, what is bright for someone can be neutral for someone , and neutral can be laid back. At least I've come to the conclusion that , rather than rely on asking for how speakers sound on absolute terms , i prefer to ask how a speaker sounds on relative terms . That way, even though we may disagree on how speakers sound absolutely, we can still agree on how they sound relatively

I say practice what you preach.

If you dont have time to correct people's mistakes then dont point them out either.
I will repeat what I said earlier if you know the correct term start using them & correct people wherever they are wrong rather than pointing fingers.

Enough is said, if you still dont get my point you never will.

40hz as midbass.

I consider the above wrong.

"Correct people's mistakes"?? The onus is not on me to do so. If you or anyone else agrees a mistake has happened, the onus is on you or that anyone else to rectify it.

I just gave a link to a repository of terms. I don't use any or all of them personally.

For me, the best measure to define audio is the size of the smile on the owners face. Not some terms which are difficult to comprehend and thrown around carelessly by every one around here.

Peace

-Anuj

Who cares. Neither do the writer JGH in front of whom our knowledge about audio is just a fraction.

It is not 40Hz. Its clearly written 40Hz-80Hz.

Then why post the link if it has incorrect info.

Also 40-80 hz is no range of midbass. I thought you knew that

I managed to find a lossless version of Chesky Records' "The Ultimate Demonstration Disk"
I'd initially heard this at my installer's place and was floored by the recording.
It helps one become a better listener and the fabulous recording helps in comparing equipment.

My point is that while auditioning a setup, carry your own music and use a particular favourite track(s) as a benchmark. Hear them on all the equipment you can get your hands on. Be it your PC speakers, Home Theatre etc.
You'll be able to pin point the strength and weakness of the equipment. Audition high end audio in demo rooms and use them as a reference point if you please.

Listen as much as you can, in the end it helps you deice what would be the right compromise!

Have my gto 506 components from the honda for the front, and will be choosing between the 607c and the illusion electra speakers for the rear. Would be getting a JBL 604 amp for the speakers.
The setup is for an Innova.

manson.
Try this. I'll look into this more soon.
JVC KD-DV7305.

Fits your requirements and for 9k or so only.
