@Nishantgandhi I got the GTO1264 for Rs 2700 (grey), based on all my evaluation, it seemed to be the best VFM - even at MRP. I am in the process of building a custom enclosure, and hope to install it next week - will post review.

Sorry about the misinformation reg CS1204 but I knew it was also known by a GT name.

WOW! Isnt that like TOO cheap for the new GTO series? I thought even the GT5 retails for a higher price in grey? Maybe Sam can shed more light on this?

why not use a cast iron soil pipe of the dia you need. these pipes have a collar at one end which can be used to mount the woofer baffle.

Help Needed

Hi Sam / Naveen,

Need some help. I drive around quite a bit in the recent hyderabad monsoon and one day my GTO 301.1 monoblock statred giving me trouble..It is not taking the signals from the HU but instead drumming the Subwoofer on its own. And the cone excursion (GTO 1202D) is in INCHES...so I am not sure if the sub us allright either.

While drumming the Sub, that the GTO is also not happy but instead becomes hot enough for me to burn my hand.

There was some moisture (not like a flood or something..to be clear damp carpet but not even a mm of water) below the amp (the amp is below the front seat)..maybe the recent carpet cleaning by Maruti is the culprit for the leak (god knows if they forgot to replace / reinstate some plug somewhere.

My plan is -
A. Get the Baleno to Maruti and find out the reason for leak (no water found around door pads / beading / sills or in the nearby carpet area)
B. Waterproof my car (dont know how??)
C. Get the GTO / Sub combination fixed (How??) or replace them
D. Should I move the amps to behind the boot seat..I mean I am really troubled

Any help / suggestions and also names of people who will do a decent job in hyderabad are appreciated. I need someone nice who can repair/replace the amp and sub as well as put the carpet back nicely at the same time.

I used to love my ICE (Sam has seen it) and enjoyed it for 3 years..................Not being able to use it anymore is making me feel very odd!!
There is the CS50.4 that gives some respite with the 4 JBL speakers..but where is the Bass?

reg

thats a lovely idea too.
cast iron pipes are cheap too.
however i have never seen one with a collar that is good enough to mount a speaker. ( i have only seen collars with 5 mm thickness)
can you explain the soil pipes you are speaking of

welding new collars with cast iron maybe be problematic.
How about an SS tube 3 mm thick?

Also navinji do you think these materials would make a good enclosure "soundwise" i mean all other enclosures we talk about are MDF.
would Steel or cast iron be worse better or same ?

also guys the CS1004T is still available na?

Ok you seem to have a problem. I hope the sub is not damaged but do noy play the amp disconnect it asap.

1. take out the amp and dry it. let it dry naturally do not use a hair dryer etc. Sam might know of a good reliable shop in Hyd that can help.
2. I have never liked the idea of keeping the amp under the car seat using the back of the rear seat is a nicer idea.

The ones I have seen are Class C Cast Iron pipes with a collar that is about 6mm thick. Now 6mm of Cast iron is pretty strong not like 6mm of MDF.

You can cut a baffle of Wood or any stiff non resonant material (the speaker my friend built using Soil pipe used a granite baffle) and use a similar methond to close the other end.

Cut baffle so that the fit is very tight and stick the baffle inside the collar and seal it with Bondo (the stuff they use to smooth car panels - my garage guy callis it "car-page" or something like that).

Cast iron is pretty stiff and non resonant. If you are willing to experiment with damping and resonance then even a PVC pipe will do. Sigfried Linkwitz uses PVC pipes on one of his smaller speakers.

But doesn't any Iron based Enclosure interfere with the magnetic field of Subwoofer? Dosn't it deteriorate the SQ or distort.

Hello Anupam,

What you are talking about is commonly referred to as motorboating.

Your amplifier is kaput and I would not advise you switch it on anymore. Send it in for repair immediately. I suspect your subwoofer is OK.

With a 10K budget spend half on a HU and half on 4 coax speakers.

No it wont the magnetic field of a loudspeaker magnet is concentrated in the voice coil gap and there is little stray field (enough to disturb CRTs but not much more).
