Team-BHP - Water in my Car...... Amps located under front seat

Guys,

I am so heart broken and completely shocked. I had been to my auntys place which happens to be a low lying area and rains played havoc. When few hours ago me and my family started for home, i opened the car and to my shock found that water had seeped in till feet level.

The Sad Part: Sat in the car and took it off from the place asap. She somehow managed to start. After driving few Kms with A/C and music system on i figured out that something was weird. Realised that the rear speakers were not playing at all and only the bass was being delivered.

Switched off the system and mind went blank. Somehow regained my senses and started thinking. Realised that since we had seen feet level water inside the car it was confirmed that my amplifiers also must have been covered with water. So what can be done about it. Guys please help me. I am totally heart broken. I am in tears now.

Sound gurus / Technicians please advice whether, amps can be repaired? What are the chances of the amps going bust?

I'm sure there is something that can be done about the soaked amps. Although I'm not an electronics guy, I believe that once dried, these things can be used again, may be just a blown fuse or something.

Hope you recover them and start playing again. Also, did you disconnect the battery live wire going to the amp, that might cause some concern if left in the same state.

I have faced this problem 5 years ago when the installers used to make holes in the cabin floor to fix the amp. When i realised the amp was soaked, I didnt play it, came home and took out the amp, kept it to dry for a few days. Later on when fixed back it worked fine (Till date)

Try the same thing..make sure there is no moisture at all when you are putting it back

If you turned the amps on while they were wet you might have fried some of the components. If you are lucky a fuse blew but if not you have damaged some of the intneral components (output/driver) transistors or some IC. Best to take it to a reputed technician and get them checked.

Navin. What you said is exactly what happened. The music system was turned on by dad when they left from my relatives place. Dad said that the music system was fine for like 2 mins until the speakers gave up and then the Sub. Also that the amp is drilled in the floor i am suspecting the water to seep in from there.

Also what are the chances of the Amps getting their life back? Or should i go for new amps?

Amps which usually have gathered water can be fixed unless they were submerged and wet for a long time.
The first thing to go on a wet internals amp being powered on are the fuses, mosfets and transistors.

NOTE to ALL USERS:
-> If you see water in the car, don't switch on the music system.
-> Detach the player and if possible disconnect the power cable at the battery which connects the amp.
-> Remove and send the amp(s) immediately to some reliable amp technician and one shoud be fine.
