Budget ICE on Palio 1.6

Hello ICE gurus just got my Palio 1.6 yesterday and planning to get it ICEd in few days. my budget is 20k and i want a simple SQ setup.

I was thinking about alpine+infinity combo then chaos suggested to also chk out hertz.

what do you people suggest. i am complete n00b in this area, if you guys can tell me the model names with approx prices that will be really helpful . and in 3-4 months time i may add a 4channel amplifier to the setup.

i am not really interested in sub, so speakers 2 in the front and 2(6x9) in the back will do just fine. i mostly listen to rock, trance and some punjabi tracks.

thanks,
Rahul

Instead of blindly following brand names, i'd suggest u listen to several brand and make your choice. Since you are not interested in a sub, Go for 2 components in the front and 2 6X9 at the rear. Choose the HU depending on the features u need, like USB etc.

Im asking since the most I've come across in chennai to audition speakers is Pioneer/Sony and the odd blau/JBL

When you guys say audition the speakers/amp/by
before buying, do you mean to audition all these on
the display racks in shops or installed in a car?

I too was buying ICE for Palio two weeks back and
failed to audition many of the brands listed out here,
leave alone auditioning most of these brands like illusion,
hertz were not available at all. I am talking about the scene
here in Hyderabad. Finally went for a JBL amp and speakers
with Alpine HU from Sprockets, while I am satisfied with what
I got, I feel the listening experience is different in car than what
we listen inside the shop on those racks.

Welcome to ice section MS. Audition means listening to the equipment after being connected and preferably to the music that you generally listen to. I agree that Hyderabad is sad in that scenario. It may not be better in other cities as well as connecting each equipment and listening is something most shop owners don't entertain, unless you commit to him that your buying from his shop only.

you must have listened to Sony explod in Sprocket as he is the main dealer for that. In most cases, you just read reviews and decide to buy your stuff.

Did Hamid install your ice?

It is preferable to audition in a car, as you have rightly felt. Most brands (other than JBL, Blaupunkt and Sony) don't even have widespread display / audition boards at dealers (it is a demand v/s investment issue) even in high demand areas like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore etc. - you are normally at the dealers' mercy for audition.

However, if one researches TBHP well, one can meet TBHP members in different cities and audition in their cars - I am sure most would like to show off rather than refuse. It gives one an opportunity to hear as well as discuss the why's and wherefores, do's and don'ts.

Yes, tends to over-tune or under-tune the install but, if you personally sit with him while tuning the system and know what you want, you will mostly get a good result. Anyways, i found him to be a good installer.

@Rahul, If you want cd,USB & iPOD integration in Alpine you will probably have to get CDA-9886 which itself cost near $300 in US or those IDA-Xxxx things with out CD

I was only able to get CDA-9873RB locally at Rs 8800/- with B/W. Got iPod integration with optional cable, front panel aux in and 2 pre-outs (not sure). But it doesn't have a good display and remote.

Even I was looking at alpines. But they are pretty highly priced and the major problem I found is they either have cd+ipod players, the cda range or the USB+ipod players, the xda range and they dont offer remote as standard.

If you dont mind small issues like the random play, then you can go with PIO as they are VFM in grey. Also have a look at the Kenwood 2008 series in their india website. Gunbir said they are good and pretty cheap in grey
