Guys & gurus, I would like to know what are my options for component speakers for someone on a tight budget. Amplifier 2ch costs would also be great to know. I have a second gen zen.

The following is what i gathered from all the threads.

Infinity Kappa 680.9cs
Alpine SPX-17PRO 2-way Components
Polk Audio SR5250
6.5 inch Infinity reference 6010CS
6.5 inch JBL GTO Series

Amp considered is:

Sony xplod XM-ZR6022

MOSFET Power Supply
• Maximum Output Power: 2 Ch x 110W at 4ohm
• Maximum Output Power: 1 Ch x 350W at 4ohm
• Maximum Output Power: 2 Ch x 150W at 2 ohm
• Rated Output Power: 2 Ch x 60W at 4 ohm(1.0% THD)
• Rated Output Power: 1 Ch x 130W at 4 ohm (0.1% THD)

Ditch the Sony amp - not worth it. Better go for a 4-channel like JBL A604, Blaupunkt GT4 Special Mk2, Kenwood 8404 or even a Pioneer 6300 or something like that. They are more economical than buying a 2-channel. The balance 2 channels can either power 6x9 mounted on a plank (don't allow the dealers to talk you into putting them in boxes) or a sub when you want.

Of your list, only JBL or Infinity 6010 can be put in a tight budget. The rest cost much more. Make sure you listen to the components before actually deciding on which one to buy.

How did the Infinity Kappa (~17,000) and Alpine SPX pro(~30,000) get into the list of budget components?

My recommendation for shoestring budgets would be
JBL GTO 608C + JBL GT5-S644

PS: No, JBL doesn't pay me a dime. :D

i would refrain from getting the sony amp.you would be better of with blaupunkt, JBL etc.

ive used sony and speak from experience.

1. Exactly what I was wondering!

2. PERFECT ~ Except for the amp. (I personally dont prefer the GT-5 series).

3. Not me either! lol:

Which amp do you prefer if not for gt-5 series. what do you think i should look for in amp specification?

I know these are noob questions but its hardly been couple of months of owning a car :D

I've listened to the GT5-A604 on a couple of budget setups and it sounded real smooth for the RMS and money.
But, the build quality needed improvement.

I assume the GT5-S644 to be the new a604.

I got a JBL GT5-S625C 6" compos for around 3900 bucks. This compos has 240 peak power woth 60 watt rms. Does anyone has any idea how good are these? a quick reply would be great as m planning to purchase today.

stick to GTO series.. for a similar price, you can get JBL GTO 608C

the Kenny 8404 or the 845 would be a decent amp

Components - GTO608c or the Boston Play Smart

@ motomaverick

Dont know if you have already purchased.

If you want to fix the components at the stock door location without cutting the door pad or metal on the inside, then 5.25" compos are the max you can fit.

I beg to differ.. its a puny amp.

Thanks for all the information. I got myself the jbl gt5-s265c series of components from a dealer in domlur. it fit my budget and i am pretty satisfied with the output. I was going on a road trip the same night so did not find time to search some more for the same.

I got 2 years b/w as well. The next hunt is for a 4ch amp!!

Congrats on your purchase. If on a budget, look out for JBL 644 ~ 5K, else try JBL 1004 (sure shot a powerful amp) ~ 10K.
