ICEing Safari LX

Dear All,

I have just booked a Safari LX (my 3rd one actually!) and would like suggestions on a good ICE setup. My previous Safari (also LX, which was stolen) had a Pioneer HU, Pioneer 10" SW, Sony speakers (can't remember the exact model) with an amplifier (probably a local make) and the sound was quite bad, probably due the amp not being a good one.

A Pioneer 4190 HU and a pair of six year old Sony speakers are lying at home which could be used but am not sure if the sony speakers are worth using.

The type of music that I listen to is metal and hard rock when my wife's not in the car else FM!

Would like to have guidance on amp, speakers and SW, basically the entire ICE setup! My ideal budget is 20k but I could stretch a bit.

Thanks,
Ankit

ankit; Use the same HU for now. Get decent 6.5 inch compos for front and 5.25 inch co-ax for rear. If the HU has 2 pair preout out, get a four channel amp.

Else, it should atleast have one pair preout, get a sub . Will make big difference to your audio.

@jkdas: Thanks for the reply and sorry for such a late revert from my end! Have taken the delivery of the 2.2 and as suggested by you, i would use the Pioneer HU (3 Preouts) that I have.

Am thinking of the following setup:

Rockford Fosgate
* RF6x9 Rear Speakers: Punch 1692 series for 7.5k
* RF 1652-5 Front Speakers for 5.5k
* RF 4 ch amp (Prime R300-4) for 1.5k
* RF 12" SW for 5k

Do you think the above is OK or I should look at Alpine/ JBL/ Blaupunkt/ Kenwood etc?

Thanks,
Ankit

Ankit,
First of all, Congrats on your new addition !!!

I would suggest for a 6.5 co-axial for the rear instead of 6x9 as you can fix them on the rear doors itself. By going for 6x9, you must be planning for small boxes, which is unnecessary as you are going for a sub. You may also try Kenny 8404 for the amp which is available for 7-8K.

RF 4 ch amp (Prime R300-4) for 1.5k, I guess this is a typo

All the best for the install and do update us.

Hi LionX,

Thank you very much.

I decided against RF and have picked up the following...
* Alpine 6.5 Component Speakers SPR-17S
* Alpine 6x9 SPR69C
* Alpine Head Unit iDA-X305

Bought the 6x9 instead of co-axials for the rear door as not going in for an amp+sub for the time being... already gone over budget with the above purchase

Thanks for pointing out the typo (the cost was 11.5k)
