I kind of have an understanding why 2 8" might sound good. Correct me if I am wrong.

As seen from above picture, the increase in sound for particular frequency depends on the sensitivity of the subwoofer for that frequency. 8" subwoofer have very low sensitivity for frequencies lower than 40 Hz. Hence, just increasing the volume does no good since frequencies above 40 Hz will increase more and shadow the increase in lower frequencies.

My guess is we can correct this problem if we have a parametric equalizer with center frequency at say 30Hz and increase the gain for that frequency.

Just my guess. Will appreciate any correction.

how will u power a pair of components and two 8'' subs to a 4 ch amp RC..ok 2 channels will be used for ur compos and the other 2 channels are u planning to bridge the subs and drive them thru the bridged(3rd and 4th) channels..

I can do this only if I get a 4ohms dual coil sub. But unfortunately, it is not available. So I will settle one subwoofer now. Installing another sub involves more cost. I need a monochannel which can do stable two ohms and that costs a hell.

thats exactly what i was wondering about bcoz if the 8'' subs have a DVC then u can wire each in parallel to achieve a load of 2 ohms and then connect the two subs in series to get 4 ohms( is tht possible navin, sam, JB & GB)...but with a SVC i think u can connect the two subs in series and drive it at 8 ohms (is tht possible too??)..now whether the amp will run two subs efficiently at 8ohms from 2 ch is what u need to look at..

so u going with a single 8'' sub under the drivers seat or sacrificing on the boot space and going for a bigger sub RC..

Oh no, I am going for a 2ohm DVC. But effectively, same as SVC at 4ohms. You can drive a 2ohm impedence or 8ohm impedence with briged channel but only for a short duration I guess due to overheating.

I would not suggest an impedance of 8 ohm with the restrictions you have in a car. You will need more power to drive an 8 ohm sub. Why would you want to do that?

McLaren, did you not get a 4 ohm sub? Just that you would make the amp work less harder for the same volume.

nope vivek..my subs a DVC..running the 2 coils in series at 8 ohms as my amp is not 2 ohm stable to run in parallel..

I see. By the way, the car decor guy was suggesting the clarion amp. Any idea how it is? But it surely cannot be as good as the alpine.

Why did you buy a DVC when you had an option of SVC? Anyway you aren't using the wiring flexibility.

There could be only one explanation: You were planning on upgrade from the begining.

By the way, I am not going for 8 ohm impedence circuit. I will be powering only one 8" (2ohms in series = 4 ohms) now. Its only when I upgrade, I will have problems in adding another sub to the bridged output.

Of course I know that Alpine is one of those quality conscious companies. But no harm in checking out the others too. Like JB suggested, I could check out the 6100F and Sony SD series.
