Sir my priority was Sound quality and not DVD or show off. The choice was simple.

This HU is designed for some serious SQ purpose unlike the DVD HU. It's not any
ordinary HU meant for everyone. One needs some finest speakers and amp to do justice to headunit. Pioneer P99rs is one heavy loaded unit that comes with features which can only be added by having an external processor. I suppose you are missing out on the details on this unit as to what it can do.

Deralteji: The price is of the store. There was a group buy on this over Diyma where landing cost of the HU from Japan came upto 1200$.

Crutchfield.com is selling the P99RS unit for 1200$ now.

While doing my homework before buying a new HU, I came across this:

Quote
Why would any reasonable, informed person expect commodity parts such as headunits to sound different unless broken or incompetently designed?

My problem with the review is that it doesn't tell anyone anything meaningful, except that the auto-EQ routine is not very good because it doesn't incorporate any sort of spatial averaging in its measurements. There's no measurements of anything, just a lot of purple prose. I would like to know, for instance, how accurate the claimed slopes and crossover points are.

It is a nice-looking HU, though. Not quite Mac 406 nice, but still nice.

Hope not to start a flame war, but does the above gentleman(!)'s view hold water?

And, by the way, so glad the discussions are so genteel and well mannered on team--bhp!

Nice HU! Must be a performer at the price you mentioned in the previous post.

Would be coming to delhi sometime soon and would love to see this stuff.

Great buy, enjoy

You're saying this after posting in the 'show off' section.

Congrats!! I am sure this is a huge upgrade. Still 50K+ is still quite a bargain to pay for this instead of the official 80K+ being quoted by Pioneer India.

had an opportunity to listen to this lovely head unit . it was surely beter than 9887 or p80 rsII and had an amazing white display . juts loved the way this head unit looks and blends with the interiors.

this is a 4 way active head unit which my alpine 9887 is not . pioneer surely has a winner in the market with this audiophile head unit.

congrats raghwinder .

This is a totally different monster compared to the 9887.
Each channel has its own 24-bit DAC.
4x 24 bit DACs!

really i thik the niceest feature for this HU is that it can play FLAC files. Lossless is so much better than any lossy format. Also lossless allows you to still have TAGs so you can still have libraries and playlists (my experience with lossless is limited to PC use).
