best budget component speakers for heavy metal?

Went to elegant, and then driven, yesterday. Elegant pushed focal on me, but I'm not very sure about it.

tried the 608c, but it was fixed in such a way couldn't change crossover settings

kicker sounded the best of the 3.

Which one would you guys suggest?

Unfortunately, Mr Rana's out of town. He said he'll call on the 4th, but his installer, Mahesh, said they've got only Rainbow. Is it good?

It'll run with a kenny HU. No amp (yet).

Thanks.

oops, i think i posted this in the wrong section. mods, pls move the thread. sorry.

Ok, i'll try Bull too.

One thing I want to know:

I have a creative inspire 2.1 with motherboard-integrated 5.1 channel sound at home PC. And that sounds pretty damn good. What do i have to do to get that kind of sound in my car? The three comps i auditioned, though not bad, were nowhere near the clarity and richness.

^ That might be because your creative speakers are designed to hollow out the 200-600Hz response.
And increase the "chan-chan" spectrum - 6KHz to 12KHz.

If you have a graphic equalizer you can easily dial the Creative/Bose sound from a decent speaker system.

Second thing is that home speakers have a well deigned cavity for their speakers - not hte same with car speakers.

When introduced, they retailed for 4.5K. I dont think kind of price hike is justified unless the manufacturer has made some significant changes in the quality of the product.

what about the change in the currency ?

1 USD = Rs 46 at the moment
1 USD (2 yrs ago) = Rs 38

@akshay they are still around 5.5K.

Felt the Rainbows (SLX I guess) to be a bit bright. These were fed from 9887 HU and played bad at moderate volume. You definitely need amp for these.

With bill? I doubt. Was quoted 6.9k at Emperor, Cochin and hence Sankar went for the Auditor compos.

Having used 9887 with my Rainbows i can assure you the culprit is 9887. The HU just exaggerates the mids which even causes fatigue on longer listening sessions.

Yes the price is with bill and some discount. MRP if i remember correctly was Rs. 5900.

A member was quoted 7K for the same comps, IIRC.

abhibh, you've got 5039 + Rainbow in your Alto. how does it sound (with and without amp)? That's about the same combo I'm thinking of.

@naru
Look for a component set that offers soft dome tweeters. Most metal dome tweeters are generally more harsh than the silk domes. Couple that with heavy metal and you'll feel the pain in your ears in no time.

And I have to agree with akshay. The Bull Audio silk-dome tweeters are quite natural sounding. If you can extend your budget a bit, try some Rainbow/DLS components.

Well i have always used them with AMP and they sound wonderful. Can't comment on how they sound without amp. Its a good combo for your heavy metal listening. Silk Dome tweeter and Metal Midbass

Try to visit GYRO and audition a few cars before deciding.

Regarding the HU 5039. Its a total VFM HU. Way better than the likes of Pioneer IMHO.
