Hello all .. This side of the forum is new to me and I have a problem which I'd like to sort out on my own with some help.

I have a set of ESK 165s in the front doors of my baleno and I bought them primarily because I loved how they sounded in Mclaren's zen( If you guys remember) as well as in a cousins car both running of pioneer HUs.

Now after I changed my blaupunkt MP46 head unit to a kenwood 8016bt , the highs sound really really harsh at moderately high volumes. Its the kind of sound that would make you want to cover your ears and close your eyes!

Its currently running off a Jbl cs60.4 amp.
HPF set on the HU at 60hz.
The rears are audiobahn components again with their HPF at 40hz.
No sub yet..
EQ on the HU is flat, all the fancy enhancements are off.

Now I clueless as to whether the hertz tweeters are inherently harsh or what because every other review Ive read says otherwise!Should I upgrade the amp? or are these speakers just not for me?

Everything else sounds pretty damn good considering there isn't a sub ; Which i Intend to put soon .. Any recommendations ?

Did you set the gains on the amp again after changing the HU ?

HPF both front and rears at 80hz and set the gains again...

Yup, Satya set that up along with the new headunit

Strange.... try to set the HPF to 80 for both fronts and rears...

I have used ESK 165 with kenny HU 6539 a lot and they are not at all harsh... Amp is kenwood though.

The Deici's tweeter is a bit on the harsher side, But not the Energy's

I have used ESK 163L with Kenwood X693, they are surely not harsh.

However currently i am using the DSK 165 with X693 and they seem to be on the brighter side (too bright for most people's liking)

Even i am using DSK with JBL1004, and they sound little harsh sometimes. However you need to set the gains little low to get the right set up. But then its all bout how the listener wants it to be. I some how like it as i listen to Trance so it kinda jell with the kinda music i listen to. I would suggest that you look into your EQ and gain settings to get that max out of the Hertz.

Were they sounding harsh on Blau?

Not really, they sounded a lot different with the blau .. the kenwood has brought out some amazing vocals from the speakers, though in in personal(read:noob) opinion I think the mids arent that strong and the sound is too bright. Will drop over at satyas and get him to check it out ..
