ICE' ing the White Beast- Scorpio VLX 8 Seater

Hi folks,
At last my new Scorpio Vlx 8 Seater was ICE'ed near the Biggest Mall in chennai..

The recipe for the ICEing was

DAY - 1
1st STAGE done on Friday 1st OCT 2010

What went in
1. Front Components - MTX Thunder 6000 series T6S652
Name: mtx thunder 6000 T6S652.png
Views: 10046
Size: 213.0 KB
2. Rear Ovals - MTX Thunder 6000 series T6C693
Name: MTX thunder 6000 T6C693.png
Views: 8679
Size: 212.8 KB
3. Amp - 4 Channel Amp from Auditor - RIP - think its 4280
ICE' ing the White Beast- Scorpio VLX 8 Seater-auditor-rip-4280.jpg
4. 8 Guage MTX Wiring for the mains
5. Scosche RCA wirings with RCA splitter

with the OEM Audio System.

Mounting Points

1. The Front Components - were mounted externally on the door pad with custom made MDF shaped to the profile
2. Tweeters mounted near to the components on the door pad itself and the cross overs were fitted inside the door pad.

3. The amplifiers were fitted below the front co-passenger seat

4. The RR ovals were fitted with custom made MDF planks at both the extremes of the Tailgate door.

5. The front and Rear were all powered by the AMP.

The install started at 4pm and ended at 8 pm and the tuning and finall touches were finished and good to go at 10 pm.

The sound quality had increased to a large extend but the OE kit was so bad, few issues for example were
1. when the volume knob was adjusted to min and 0 tak tak noise was coming in the speakers
2. when in AUX mode with full volume i was able to hear one of the channels of the FM playing in low tone.

Was audited on Sunday and Monday by some of our fellow BHPinans in my area.

DAY - 2 - 2nd stage - Monday 4th OCT 2010

One of my friend had spared his HU for checking in my setup to see if the SQ got better.
Went again to the same installer
after a long discussion went in for the 2nd stage for fitment of the following

What went in
1. RR SUB - KICKER compact series (since the car was a 8 seater had negligible space at the rear - TC 10
ICE' ing the White Beast- Scorpio VLX 8 Seater-kicker-tc10_1.jpg

2. Roof mount monitor for playing DVD - Neotek 9 inches (very light weight was fixed after removing the front room lamp so that the OEM setup of the Head lining did not get affected.

after the install was over had some issues with the HU which my friend gave.... did not have the heart to get back home half baked.

Went in to to a deep dive for search of a HU for my requirements and budget
1. Requirements was DVD player, 2 preouts, USB slot and must play divx through USB 1DIN/2DIN with bill and with warranty - and all with a low fat diet ended up with the KENWOOD DVD unit
MP5343U.

Successfully completed the install by 8pm and got back home.
Need to go for the tuning after my beast returns from 1st service tomorrow.
Folks that's all for now
Will be posting the actual photos later.

Prithvi, that is an excellent list of components that you have chosen for your Scorpio.

The Kenwood MP5343 is a really great Head-Unit. It has a 24-bit DAC and even Time alignment. Very good Sound quality.

Enjoy the sound and ride safely bro.

Hi Prithvi - What was the cost of this install (Stage 1 and 2)? I'm expecting my VLX AT by end of next week and would definitely like to trash the OEM ICE that comes along. Also, one question on the Steering control's, did you do any thing specific to retain the controls?

Regards
-Rajesh

Now, that is something which I might do, to a certain extent. I have a few questions though:
1. What did the speakers cost you?
2. What did the amp cost you?
3. Does your VMS still work?
4. Any wire cutting to the OEM harness?
5. How bad or good was the sound quality with just the speakers and the amp? I do not have the budget to change the HU currently.

Waiting for your replies and photos.

Can't wait to audition the set-up and check out the HU. Good that you decided to ditch the OE HU within 3 days after the first stage install

Folks regarding the prices please PM me for it, i lost my steering control but i do not miss it much since it had only 4 switches like volume up/down, mode select and seek upwards. etc.
1. specific answer for n.devdath depending on the components and co ax and amp used the sound quality varies. first do the stage 1 install and then decide what you want to do with the HU retain or change. i did it in stages due vitamin M issues

Pre review since i have not heard to music in length during my long trips - they are suttle at high frequencies, not bright and the mid bass is better felt and the music is around your ears and they dont get in to it.. and these also depends upon the tuning of the amps and HU - team this my view it may vary from person to person

replies for other queries

1. Carbaliga - i have sent a PM regarding the prices which are after discount

2. n.devdath - i have sent a PM regarding the prices which are approximate take or give 200-300 bucks.

3. jkdas - i have lost my steering controls but i do not miss it and i do not have any clue about if these comps are latest or not but as per MTX website these are only sold in Europe and not in the US
4. Mission safari - Lets meet up on sunday for a audition
5. Pr_007- not gone too much in to the setting of the HU hope to meet up some time with ICE gurus release the real potential of my HU.

One question to all here. Is it possible to fit the "Jaali" back after fitting these speakers/any other speakers in the front? If not, do these speakers have a "Jaali" of their own?
If not, wont they be prone to damage when monkeys get into and out of the truck?

Prithvi, please post your pics asap.

Eagerly waiting to see the install pics. I am now in the research mode for ICE setup for my future vehicle. I bought the HU already now analyzing the remaining components. I plan to buy a SLE (which has all the basic features including ABS) then include the delta ones (like HU, reverse parking sensor etc). Will be closely watching this thread!

Please dont forget to upate us on the price, Prithvi !
