I need your suggestions on choosing a Head unit.

Pioneer DEH-6390SD
Pioneer DEH-249
Kenwood KDC-U449
JBL GT-X555

This is for Chevy Beat and I will not add a sun woofer but might add an amplifier in future.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
CT.

Re: What on earth has happened to Pioneer ??

Since you said you may add an amplifier then X-555 is out as many have faced problems with it if connected to an amp.
Of the rest i would recommend KDC-U449 & then 6390SD.

Thanks for replying immediately.

Any specific reasons for choosing Kenwood over Pioneer??

Please don't get me wrong, but on paper Pioneer looks better:

Pioneer 6390SD
  1. 3 Preouts of 4V
  2. Equalizer 5-Band GEQ
  3. Crossover Network HPF/LPF
Kenwood KDC-U449
  1. 2 Preout (2.0V)
  2. 3 bands parametric EQ
  3. Low Pass Filter
I have never experienced a Kenwood head unit, Most of my friends have Sony (which I personally do not like) and I have been using a Pioneer (dont remember the model it has rear USB connection). I prefer Pioneer over Sony, but have no clue about Kenwood.

Also I have no idea whether the above differences matter to a basic setup like mine (I am no audiophile, but i love music)

Thanks again.

I would like to know too, is the sound quality of Pioneer 6390SD good? Any good alternatives at that level?

6390SD was discontinued last year and it might be difficult to find it in the market. Try looking for JVC KD-R626 and Kenwood KDC-U4549SD. They are priced between 5500-6000 with B/W. Oops-forgot to see that your post is a month old now.
