Advice for GETZ GLS.

Hi,
I have a Getz GLS 2005. I am from chennai. I have posted my queries before and it was not even recognised. Anyway i went wth my choice. But i am badly in need of an advice for the rear speakers.

Current setup:
Hu: Pioneer 5250SD
Front and Rear Speakers: OEM.

Budget:
5K for 2pairs if possible. Or else 1 pair if the sound quality is good.

My audio preferance:
Very good BASS.

I have shortlisted the brands to Alpine, Soundstream, DLS, Ultimate.

I badly need ur help guys to tell me whch model to go. Cos i have not tested any of the above and since its a low budget none of the dealers are giving me any demo.

P.S -
Dont want to be ignored again.

You wont get 1 pair of Alpine, DLS etc.. for 5K lave alone 2. If yo are considering Alpine, DLS, etc.. also consider Infinity. Based on some reports on TBHP, DLS has been having some problems with service and delivery so be careful.

Re: Advice for GETZ GLS.

Get 6x9 speakers like the JBL GTO 938 or 947 at the rear, if you need bass.
But, you can't get good bass out of 15W RMS that the head unit puts out.

Thanks for the reply guys.

But for the 6x9's i have to either make a box for it or install it in a plank. Thats another set of costs for it, rite ?

I found a shop in Annanagar, Chennai. Where a pair of Alpine SPS-600 costs 3800rs. Ultimate for 2.8K. IS that a fake or no good at all ?

Re: Advice for GETZ GLS.

My suggestion as per your budget is some model from Pioneer. I have used & heard Pioneers extensively & hooked on to some different HUs. In my opinion, they give out a nice bass in 6*9 speakers & under a budget. Also, use a box with them, & you would be surprised.

Do audition a couple of models from their stable as well before making a choice.

Drive safe.

Re: Advice for GETZ GLS.

I am planning on doing an ICE for my Ford Ikon 2005.

The first thing i would like to know is, is it okie to install a Sub Woofer in the rear plank ??
If so wont it be a disturbance when people sit in the back seat ?

Or is the best way is to install it in the boot ?

Re: Advice for GETZ GLS.

1. No, it is not a good idea to put sub on plank. Any sub would be too heavy for mounting there, and also the sound will be really boomy. Sealed or ported box is the best way to go, especially if you can get a fiber-glass box made so that it occupies one side of the boot (will save boot space)

2. Rear seat passengers will be disturbed whether you put it on the plank or keep it in the boot. Make sure that you have a convenient way of reducing sub volume when the there are passengers in the rear seat

Yes your rite. Thats what i thought about also.

Will the damping of the rear boot reduce sub volume inside the car ?

Re: Advice for GETZ GLS.

No, damping does not act on the sub. It acts on what the sub acts on , i.e. sound from the sub makes loose parts vibrate and make bad noises - damping prevents them from vibrating.

Re: Advice for GETZ GLS.

Let your ears decide, not your eyes. Ask for an audition - whoever doesn't give one is not worth buying from.

Re: Advice for GETZ GLS.

Went wth MTX XT603 6" Coxials for the rear. And JBL in the front. First i thought it will be a disaster to mix the brands for the doors. But the quality just amazed me. Excellent Bass and Excellent clarity. The MTX tweeters are awesome. Got them seprate from the component series. It just brings the music out.

I auditioned them as u all sugested. Really helped me a lot.

Thanks everyone.

additionally the metal used in cars is about 16GA or 18GA. THis is very very thin and resonates like a tin drum. Damping reduces these resonances making the panel more dead. Just rap a damped panel with your knuckles and you can tell how it compares to an undamped one. We call this the "rap test" - it has nothing to do with the music form called Rap.
