Team-BHP - Car, Van & Bus Air-conditioner Repairs : Welcome Car A/C (Taramani, Chennai)

Prelude: My AC was not effective, so as a Hyundai loyalist, I took it to the HMP ASC at Ekkatuthangal Chennai. A mechanic checked and told that Gas was okay and need to check (And replace) Compressor, thermostat etc. Estimate given was Rs 25,000/- approx. I almost fell for it, but they said it would take time to replace, in the tune of 5 days. I had planned to go to kumbakonam and nearby temples for the long weekend between Oct 2nd - Oct 7th.

I decided to show it to an AC mechanic near my office at Taramani.

Experience:
I walked in and said AC is not working. The technicial cum owner came out, straightaway opened the bonnet/hood and said it is AC Gas problem, as the condenser pipes were not "swaeting", which means less AC Gas. He filled in AC Gas and it started chilling. Next day, again the effect was about 40% less. I took it to him again, he removed some "dust" from the AC piping and till date the AC Chills. It is as good as a brand new car. I paid 600/- all incl.

Represents unorganized sector
No space (His shop is just 2 feet wider than a force traveller)
No lounge / chair to sit. It is just a typical small FNG.
Absolutely zero parking space / waiting space
Crowded - need to wait till we are attended (for major problems)
Does NOT Stock any chemicals like AC Foam cleaner et all.

How to reach:
When coming from elachery, head towards SRP Tools. Keep looking out on the left, just after the MRTS Tracks. It is a small shop on the left.

When coming from Kandanchavadi / Thiruvanmiyur, Turn on to Taramani velachery link road and head towards Velachery. Take a U Turn below the MRTS Tracks and head back. Shop is 200 mts down, to the left.

Tips:
Drive in 1st gear. It is very easy to miss the shop. If you can locate it in the first pass, you are great.

Not trustworthy!

I walked in with two problems
1) Blower output has reduced
2) Chill air completely stops during long drives after 2-3 hours. If A/C is stopped for 10-15 minutes, once all the water has drained, it works again.

The technician spend ~10 minutes in the passenger side foot well and concluded that the entire dash has to be dismantled and cleaned. It will take 1 full day and will cost Rs2500. All along another guy (owner?) was asking the technician "Is there a filter?", the technician was not responding to this question in front of me.

I walked out and checked in with Suresh Car A/C. Problem was fixed by removing and cleaning the filter. I was able to walkout in ~45 minutes, bill: 150Rs.clap:
