I have to second esteem_lover that the HP Company owned one next to the subway opp Churchpark is one of the better ones. It is also useful because they are open 24x7.

I stick to HP most of the time since there is one on my way to work on Usman road opposite Viveks. Thats another company owned place and to dat very decent.

Would request people to post other similar petrol bunks open late/all night.

My favourites are:

1. HP on Anna Salai at the Model School Road turning (near old Safire theatre)

2. Bp - EKAYARS at Venkatanarayana Road.

As our office has been moved to DLF IT Park, I find it difficult to go out there for fuelling, so I am now trying with the Shell at Porur (near HDFC & ICICI bank).

The COCO HP bunk near Anna flyover is quite popular. My father used to be a regular for some decades now. I frequent the BP Bunk, Balakrishna at St Mary's road, i'm getting consistent mileage from them. Shell bunks outperform all of them in service quality, but they only retail permium fuels.

this is an eye opener as this is a company operated pump (COCO) the first BPCL one in Chennai. They even have an officer cadre posted at the pump. my parents used to drive from Chetpet to Moggapair to fill fuel.

My favorite fueling holes are :
1. Cathedral road - BP
2. The lorry owners associations pump - near guindy flyover - BP
3. The HP COCO on mount road
4. The HP Pump on mount road near Saidapet (with the subway and fresco outlets)
5. Venkatnarayana road - Tnagar - BP
6. The BP Pump on St. Marrys road
7. The BP Pump after radissions near the airport

if the pump looks decent - i fill up for 500. and go to these places and top up. All my long distance journeys have me filling up the tank at any of the places above.

And - yeah- if i am topping up the tank - i always go to fill during the nights 1030- 11 or early morning.

Since I reside at Chromepet and work at Guindy, I have always used pumps enroute. My favourite is the Shell pump at Chromepet, Q&Q is excellent and they treat you like a VIP! We can transact the business unhurriedly. Have been using Shell premium for my Splendor and the other day took my brand new alto there straight from the show room for a full tank. The car took in 28 litres and when I saw the bill, my smile was frozen! It now costs Rs 50.95 per litre and the normal unleaded costs only Rs 2.00 less. As the Maruti sales man said ordinary petrol is enough for the Alto, I am pondering a switch to PSU pumps.

The other bunk I like is the IOC one (Shanthi Petroleum) near the Trident Hotel. I was a regular there before going to Shell. If I visit Mount Road, will go to the HP pump near Gemini flyover. My brother-in-law is a regular at the HP pump near Radisson hotel, just before Trident. He swears by them. I have heard that the BP pump just adjacent to it is also very good.

I fill petrol from the Indian Oil pump opposite Sathyabhama University in OMR road after Sholinganallur, and I get an average of 10% extra mileage when compared to other pumps!

During my 7 years of chennai life i have found the following pumps have consistent quality and quantity.
1. TVS near Satyam Theatre
2. Shell Vadapalani
3. Shell Ekkaduthangal
4. IBP after koyambedu junction enroute to anna nagar
5. COCM IOC in Poonamalle high road
6. HP on GST road before Radisson
7. Shell at nandambakkam

I found many other pumps in chennai are giving lower mileage (~10% less). The worst is a petrol bunk near Udayam Theatre.

Yes, another very very good bunk is the TVS operated one on whites road.

I wonder if all the Shell bunks offer the same Q&Q standards?

I think the very fact we need a thread like this is a disgrace to our enforcement system. Also, shows how widespread is adulteration and short measurement.

I would add , IOC on eldams road/TTK road junction and HP near the SIET signal ( by LR SWAMI BUILDING ). at HP, the petrol is good, but they con you by surrounding you. So dont take your eyes of the pump metre, IBP on Taramani Road, Velachery.

I dread filling anywhere else

Agreed! If enforcement was stringent, one could fill fuel in any bunk anywhere in the country without a worry.
