The IOC pump just opposite to Sathyabama University entrance in OMR - I found the quality of fuel to be very good, though i have not had the opportunity to verify the quantity.

Never visit the IOC pump in LB Road between Adyar Telephone exchange and Adyar Depot. I have had experience of attempts to cheat more than once. Also, the quality is pathetic. My swift once started smoking big time.

The pumps I visit in order of priority:

1) Shell pump on GST Road, Chromepet.

2) Club HP pump before Radisson Hotel, GST Road, Meenambakkam.

3) BP Pump, also before Radisson Hotel, same location.

4) Club HP Pump, R.P Road, Nehru Nagar, Chromepet. This one is a liitle bit out of the way - one has to climb MIT flyover and cross over to Nehru nagar side, fill petrol, back track the same way to GST road and fly off - deviation will take only a couple of minutes.

5) IOC Pump adjacent to Trident Hotel, GST Road, Meenambakkam.

My Dad is in the oil industry.

He mentioned that the IOC bunk in Numgambakkam(opposite Income Tax dept and having a Krishna Sweets mini shop) is company owned and pretty good.

Also the IOC bunk near Nilgiris. Thats company owned too.

The Safire Theater bunk is also recommended(as mentioned above).

I have filled in all those places, but didnt check quality or mileage.

I used to fill at only BP Bunk R.K.Salai. I'm fine the Q&Q but often they fills the wrong fuel (petrol 2 diesel and vice versa.) now a days.

I have been a regular at BP on College Road (near SBI/Eye hospital) for the past few years now (both petrol for my old Zen and Diesel for Swifty) and found the mileage to be invariably better than most other pumps I visit.

The only other pump I regularly visit is the BP company operated pump at Mugappair and even there I find the mileage suffering. Shell on CTH road yielded similar disappointing results in spite of the price difference.

I actually maintain an XLS with individual filling details of each fill since I married Swifty and the difference is very clear when I gas up at BP, college road.

Dont know if its just me - but I stopped by the HP on Anna Salai between Thousand lights and Anna Flyover and had a pretty poor experience (mileage-wise). It was just one occasion though and therefore is subject to misinterpretation.

My choice of bunks are in the order below :

IBP Ullagaram - Oil mill stop

+ The quantity and Quality is always there.
+ Once filling is started the attendants will remove their hands from the nozzle till it auto cuts off.
+ Ensures Zero setting before dispensing
+ Free Nitrogen for tank fills / Rs. 500 premium petrol filling

- Crowded at odd times

Shell - Pallikaranai

+ Shells reliable Quality and Quantity
+ Ensures Zero setting before dispensing
+ Air Pump is regularly serviced for accuracy of filling

- No Nitrogen facility

BP - Venkatanarayana Road

+ Quality and Quanity is good

- Always Crowded
- Customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
- Always there will be a big Queue for checking air

Essar - Pallikaranai 100 Feet road near Kilkattalai

+ Quality and Quantity is good
+ Ensures Zero setting before dispensing

- Credit card machine will not work most of the time

There are two bunks I'd like to talk about :

1. IOC petrol bunk, opposite adyar telephone exchange on LB road, Adyar

Bad. Multiple attempts of cheating on me. I have been duped twice, as I had just learnt driving at that time, and didn't think that petrol bunks could actually cheat you.

I went to fill petrol worth 150/- in my bike. The attender tried blocking my view of the meter and asked me
"Sir, cash or card?"
"Cash", I say, keeping my eyes fixated on the meter
"Oh, so no card ah sir?"
"No"
He couldn't block my view entirely as I happen to be 6 feet +. He stopped the meter at 50. I realized he was upto something, and took out a 50/- note and gave him. He gave some excuses, said the meter has to be restarted, and then filled for another 100/-. Have been avoiding the pump from that time on.

2. HP Bunk, Sathya Studios, near adyar bridge

Good. Went to try that bunk after my string of bad experiences with the IOC which happens to be very close to my residence. The overall experience here was good. They ensured the meter zero, and asked me to verify the final reading as well.

It is quite a big bunk, and it's really shameful they're doing such things. You too live somewhere in Adyar?

HP next to Ampa Skywalk - They tried the same trick of Rs.200 and restart. In General, I stopped trusting HP pumps.
IOCs wherever I went, were cordial, just do their business and no frills.
Good Pumps in North: IOC at 3rd Avenue Anna Nagar, IOC at New Avadi Road, near Kilpak Garden Signal.
