Re: Seatbelts for auto-rickshaw driver/occupants; shouldn't it be mandatory?

Personally, I think a combination of seat belt and passenger helmets should do the trick I doubt seat belt alone will help if a rikshaw topples.

The auto-rikshaw prices are comparable to Nano. Nano would be so much safer and comfortable to ride in. It is spacious, safe (NCAP 5 rating, isn't it?). Yellow Nano for basic and Blue topped ones for air-conditioned, would make it truly a people's car, instead of fifth car for the rich and elites.

This what Ratan Tata should tell his marketing and sales team to do. Get the government to approve them as para-transport and re-train rickshaw drivers to use signals and not pirouette on the road.

Re: Seatbelts for auto-rickshaw driver/occupants; shouldn't it be mandatory?

Hi all,

Read this article dated (courtesy Business standard) 16/3/09 also suggesting that auto-rickshaw companies will feel the Nano impact. 2 yrs+ and still no Nano's as urban rickshaw's/taxi's today. I think Tata is missing out on a potential market here; they can easily eat into Bajaj's and TVS's autorickshaw market space by introducing a rickshaw/taxi version of the Nano (like they did with Indica called Indicab) at a cheaper price. Diesel will be a sure shot killer.

2-wheeler, auto-rickshaws may feel Nano impact

Google didn't throw up many countries where 3 wheeler auto-rickshaw's are used; guess most of the developed/developing nations realise that these 'things' are unsafe. India, Bangaldesh, Pak and Thailand came up as top references.

Another article from mid-day where RTO found 18 school children 'stuffed' into a single rick. Hope someone's listening.

18 schoolchildren found bundled into an autorickshaw

Cheers, Sid
