The 'Italian Job' - LHD Iveco LCV in Bangalore

I had the opportunity today to vist the relics of St. Don Bosco which is making its tour around the world, when they paid a visit to Bangalore.

The relics are travelling in a IVECO mini truck. Let the pictures now do the talking.

The final set of pictures

The news is reported in the Times of India - Bangalore edition on Page 2. There are two vehicles from Italy going around our country and since they are left-hand drive, they had to obtain special permission from the Authorities.

Tried my best but could not spot the 'other' vehicle. I'm guessing it must be a JEEP that acts like a Pilot vehicle since the IVECO is the one which carrys the relics.

There was a winch in the cargo hold to haul up the relics

Re: The 'Italian Job'

Well so the trucks have reached Bangalore, to clear the above point both the vehicles are the same Iveco trucks. I got to see the trucks when they were in Goa before they went to Karnataka. Could not manage to talk to the drivers though, wanted to know their perspective on how they find our sense of driving.

The Drivers were pretty chilled out guys. They did not speak very good english but were very jovial and encouraged people to 'explore' the truck.

They happily posed for pictures and let people get into the truck and get a feel of things.

What a kalaidescope they must be going through

Re: The 'Italian Job'

Though its been posted in the "Indian Car Scene" section, this Iveco Daily is actually a light commercial vehicle, available as a light truck or more commonly as a professional van.

Even this 3.5ton vehicle has almost 150hp on tap, something most of our 50 seater buses dont have.

re: The 'Italian Job' - LHD Iveco LCV in Bangalore

The Iveco Daily is a very successful LCV platform across the globe. Interesting to note that fiat is looking to sell its Industrial business (Iveco, FPT Industrial & CNH Tractors) & hence the Daily platform is up for Grabs. There is a lot of interest in this platform among European OEMs but Fiat wants a bundle sale and not the sale \ licensing of individual platforms.

Wonder if a Chinese OEM or the Tatas will take the plunge ....

You are right... in that the Iveco platform has engine options with upto 170 Hp (3 lit). However the van in the photograph is with a 95 Hp (2.3 L) engine. Im guessing the higher HP engine options are for GVWS of 5 - 6 tons.

I dont think so. The rear of the vehicle clearly mentions Daily 3.0. And the 3L engine starts from 140odd hp I think.

The 'L10' in the model nomenclature is indicative of 100 hp, the actual output being 96 hp or so. The '3.0' could be indicative of its 3 meter wheelbase.

Nice to see this IVECO Daily here in INDIA. I worked for this model during its transformation from Daily 3.0 to Daily 3.0 HPT (High Pressure Turbolader) till the first firing with F1C engine which is a 3 liter CommonRail with VGT. Have driven the same with 129kw power delivery in Germany.
