That's a 45 year old design, basically an improved version of Mercedes OM 314. Doesn't an all-new platform deserve an all-new engine?

I'd like to know what is new in Y1 given that it uses the same engine.

Basically Y1 would be a new platform, i.e new chassis designed in modular concept so that numerous variants can be made from it. The chassis is more wider and can accommodate different suspensions (parabolic leaf springs or air suspensions), axle variants, engines (6 or 4 cyl.) etc. And regarding engine, its the BS3 497TCIC which is fitted in this bus for domestic market. But need not be surprised if TML offers BS4 ISBe in the same bus or any other 6Cyl. engine for export market etc.

What about the new range of 3 to 5 litre engines developed in collaboration with AVL? Y1 was supposed to use these. The 3L version was displayed at the last Autoexpo.

Re: CV @ Autoexpo2012...Wild guess!!

Its a shame about Bharat Benz not participating. Does anyone know why they opted out ?

Is Photon participating ? Any other Big names not participating in the CV segment ?

Judging by the chaos at the last couple of shows one gets the impresseion that its about time the organizers consider a CV + Off-Highway and Pascar+2 wheeler specific event every alternate year. OR shift to a new venue (cant really think of one which can do justice to the scale of the AutoExpo) if CII continues with the current pattern of having CVs, Pascars and two wheelers at the same expo.

Wonder what's holding back AL and TM from launching such a bus. Didn't anyone inside get the idea at least when Volvo introduced the B9R?
