| Details about Tata Motors' Range of Defence Vehicles Tata Motors showcased a new concept, the Micro Bullet-Proof Vehicle (MBPV) at DEFEXPO India 2012. It is a highly mobile combat vehicle for indoor combat inside airports, railway stations and other such infrastructure. Besides, Tata Motors launched four other defence vehicles – the Tata 12x12 Prahaar Missile Carrier, the Tata Light Armoured Vehicle, the Tata Mobile Bunker and the Tata 6x6 7kl Refueler and displayed a range of other concept vehicles. Tata Micro Bullet-Proof Vehicle (MBPV): The Tata Micro Bullet-Proof Vehicle (MBPV) is a project that is being jointly developed by VRDE-DRDO and Tata Motors, for providing the country’s elite commando forces (NSG, Marine Commandos, Para Battalions & Force One) with a protected mobility solution that assists them during indoor combat against insurgents. The need for this kind of a solution has been felt desperately by commando units, who face multiple hostage situations; wherein terrorists have been holed up inside confined premises, houses, hotels, malls and airports. The MBPV has been designed keeping indoor combat in mind, with special features like bullet resistant panels for protection, compact dimensions, with 4-wheel assisted turning for easy movement within indoor confines and high power-to-weight ratio for fast & agile movement, during combat. Firing ports have also been incorporated for retaliatory action. Moreover, it has an added capability of climbing stairs as well. Tata 12x12 Prahaar Missile Carrier:  The Tata LPTA 5252-12 X12 is specifically meant for missile launcher cum carrier applications like integration of Prahar, BrahMos and Nirbhay Missiles, in close coordination with R&DE – DRDO. The vehicle is equipped with Anti-Locking Braking System (ABS), Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS), Auxiliary Gear box with High and low speed mode and differential locks system. The vehicle is operable normally in 12x8 mode and can be driven in 12x10 and 12x12 modes as per terrain requirements. It is imperative that these security forces must be able to not only defend themselves against sudden guerrilla attacks by the enemy, but must also be capable to retaliate fiercely. The Tata Light Armoured Vehicle is intended to aid the troops in Counter Insurgency Operations as well as for patrolling the hinterland. The vehicle would be certified by CMVR regulations post armouring, which is a mandatory requirement to ply legally on Indian roads. Tata Motors has prepared the EW Command post on LPTA 3138 8x8, in collaboration with its group company Tata Power – SED. The EW Command post is a EMP Hardened MIL Grade shelter for mobile application designed as per MIL-STD-907, MIL-STD-285 intended for Electronic Warfare application. Tata Safari Storme GS 800 4x4:  The Indian Armed Forces are currently looking at procuring a 4-wheel drive, high mobility platform, for induction into the Defence Services as a General Service vehicle, to be used for transporting officers during peacetime as well as during conflicts, across locations in India. Actually the 3000 Kg is the gross weight of the vehicle. The payload is 825kg. Therefore the unladen weight is 2175Kg.. This is very close to the civilian vehicle. I suppose there wouldn't be much of differences between the civilian version and this since this primarily meant for peace time ferrying of officers And the armoured vehicle has a much smaller payload of 350+kg and the gross weight is 3300kg, about 10% more than the GS 800.. That again should be the reason for the 150kmph speed compared to the 160kmph of the 3000kg Gross GS800 Last edited by arulpeem : 1st April 2012 at 09:48. | Re: Details about Tata Motors' Range of Defence Vehicles Very nice to see such vehicles from TATA. It is the technology that is used in these vehicles that comes later into passenger cars.  Most of the Major technologies, Like 4X4, GPS Navigation System and many others have been derived from these vehicles.  Is TATA or any other Automotive giant in the process of making an INDIAN HUMMER. Would love to see one with a wide body, 4X4 and the strong and sturdy look of the Hummer. |
