If my memory serves me correct - Azad coaches was building the bodies initially for the Volvo's. At that point - I suspect the round headlights might have been used. (Not too sure - pure speculation about the origins of the round lights, but sure about Azad.)

Apparently this happend in Calicut- the bus was entering tyre deep water - and then there was a flash flood. Someone has posted this info before.

I agree with moralfibre here. I would love to drive a Volvo bus but right now it seems a distant dream. 2 things I would like to drive
1. A Volve B7R
2. A Tata ST BUS (LAL PARI - Red and Yellow ones)
They seem amazing to me.

Regards,
Kaustubh

Has he driven it? (Meaning does he have a commercial license?!)

But god look at that porch, it looks like a aircraft hangar!

Yeah Yeah.. why not like an aircraft hangar? I remember, his folks drove down to Bangalore to buy spares for the expensive monster & the bill was whopping 1.3 lakhs !

P.S: Nope he does not have a commercial license, there is a driver appointed to drive the Swedish tanker who is very much obsessed (read possessive too). So he does not really get his hands on it all the time.

Cheers,
Jai

Even today, B7R's body is built by Azad builders through a separate company called Jaico Automobiles in which Volvo holds about 70% stake.

If I am not mistaken Volvo buses in India is a case study in ISB, other Bschools in India too, maybe someone can confirm, for building a brand with zero advertising and little PR, just on sheer product. Quite an achievement if you ask me, anybody who sits in a Volvo knows this is a superior product and has not been compromised for 'Indian conditions'. So there is admiration and respect.

took a KSRTC volvo to Davanagere from Mumbai central on friday. Left central at 3:45pm (there was some SIDCO issue at panvel and no buses were allowed to run), crossed Vashi by 5pm. The driver was drivin unusually slow on the expressway. My seat no was 1, bang behind the driver. But the view of the speedo was possible due to its reflection in the window mirror (next to me ). At Pune, the stop was too long due to some reason (an hour). Finally left swargate by around 10pm and reached Davanagere by 6:30 am ( 560kms from pune). 560kms in 8.5hrs is 65.8km/h. Taking out an hr for dinner break n fuel break, the avg comes out to 74.6km/h! But the driver never went over 105 as per the speedometer, he was always between 95 and 100.

on the way back, I took a VRL volvo, again seat no 1 . This time, the max he did was 111-112 around Satara. Left Davanagere by around 11pm, reached Pune swargate by 8:15am. Just over 9 hours...

And then took the first version old Volvo (neeta travels) the next day to Mumbai. The old version's front wheel rim was a lot diff from the one produced nowadays. This guy was flyin on the expressway. Accordin to my stop watch, we were passin the km markers in around 34-35secs, the best being 33.49secs, which is 107km/h true or around 115km/h on the speedo. not bad for a 5-6 yr old volvo

Bunny, do you have pictures of the old rim and the new one for comparision?

Here's a pic I took with my Nokia N73 phone on the Mumbai-Pune route expressway at the Khalapur HP petrol pump (Nishi Sagar restaurant).

It was a Volvo B7R of Pravas Travels wearing split-ring rims and
Made-in-China, Chao Yang CR944 11.00R20 tires.

Kewl! I commend you on your astute observation from the window seat, Bunny.
3600 s/h divided by 33.49 s/km yields 107.49 km/h

I have a picture of a Volvo rim with one nut missing. For some reason the pictures doesn't give me an unsafe feeling.
