Aluminium discs should reduce the heat trasnfered from brake drum to tyres. Having 295 section tyres in Cheetah should give you upto 1.5 lks kms tyre life alround. If you try only in rear that should give some 10% extra.

where is your bus operating? we will be gald to see your Cheetah.

The current products have 160 il and 183 EDC. The earlier ones were 160 EDC, which is same as our Raj's Viking.

From 2010 Oct BS III came to effect. But from that point AL is offering newly migrated products as listed in website.

Apart from this tell us more stories on conversion.

What is the average life of the tyres on a bus like the multi axle volvos?how many times can these be retreaded before they are discarded? Also how much does one tyre for a volvo size cost?

Sorry for asking so many questions . Just curious to know how much role do the tires of a bus play in the overall maintenance cost of the bus.

ThankS

My mistake, the correct spec would be GULF Superfleet LE Max with 36000km drain interval provided you are using the extended life oil filters (longer ones). Being a 2010 model, the engine should be having one.

The conversion was done to a mechanical rotary or inline fuel pump ?

It should be BS II Viking 210 or 222 (most probably 222) as i have hardly seen Cheetah in our area.

Nice to see a bus owner from Coimbatore-Pollachi route. It is one of the dense routes present in Tamilnadu. I too from Pollachi and closely follow the buses in Coimbatore-Pollachi-Palani route.

We have a bus named "Madhu" in this route. Is that yours?

Extended drain oil is not available in bus during 2010. That was a USP specially developed for U-Trucks. And now AL is deploying across all models and just now AL has started offering in buses and now it goes upto 80K for engine oil change, aganist regular 40K. THis is the highest engine oil change period in the industry.

For the long drain interval, oil recommended is Gulf Super Fleet LE Dura Max 15W-40 aganist the normal recommended oil of Gulf Super Fleet LE 15W-40. Oil filters are also different.

I was a regular in the Chennai - Tuticorin sector in the mid '80s. Two omnibus (RVN Travels and Rathi Meena) services in this route always did the distance in twelve hours - Leave Chennai 5.30 PM, arrive Tuticorin 5.30 AM. TTC took an hour more. Roads were nowhere near what they are now. All of them were AL buses.

Dear BHP ians,
I done a little bit of research on Engine oils with help from,
Oil Specifications Explained - What does 10w40 mean?
Motor oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I also did comparative study of
Castrol CRB Turbo - http://www.castrol.com/castrol/secti...tentId=7074461
Gulf Super Diesel Plus -http://www.gulfoilindia.com/cvo_super_diesel_plus.html
Agip Sigma Truck Supreme...with the following specs
ACEA
E7/E5 and API CI-4/CH-4
Servo Pride ,XL,Premium etc
Automotive Lubricating Oils : Indian Oil

AGIP was the only one with a CI4 Specification with a max viscosity index of 150

Hope this is useful to all Bus Owners
