MP Tourism Caravans aka Holiday on Wheels | New Tourism Concept in India

MP Tourism Caravans aka Holiday on Wheels | New Tourism Concept in India-1.jpg

How many of us must have pined to own a caravan / camper / recreational vehicle, but better sense prevailed because it is not an economical proposition. Yet, our wanderlust keeps making us want a car which we can live and sleep and eat in, while holidaying on the road.

MP Tourism helps folks in India to make that dream of living in a car that doubles up as a room, come true! It's called Holiday on Wheels, and MP Tourism says
Quote:
Caravan is not just a vehicle - it is an experience. It offers AC luxury drive in total privacy. It is first of its kind in the country to take the adventurous tourist to any desired spot. MPT becomes the first state in the country to introduce Caravan Tourism. It was an instant hit among the adventure seekers as no one could think of such a facility available at such an affordable price. The vehicle has a microwave, a fridge, an LCD and is fully air-conditioned. You can park the vehicle at parking bays of MP Tourism units.

A very unique idea I must say, if their charges are economical, qutie a few people would prefer this to booking hotel rooms at every destination in M.P. that they visit. Maintenance and crew hold the key to this initiative's success.

Will they allow a self drive thing on this? Given that this has yellow plates.

I doubt it. The routes etc. seem to be fixed, and this does not appear to be a 'go-anywhere' kind of vehicle rental.

Of late, MP has really started going all out in promoting tourism with some unique commercials (Audio/Video).

Roads in MP have also improved significantly for people to drive to their destinations.

Add this concept and looks like a good move. Hopefully they are also focusing on creating the infrastructure for such facilities.

a to MP tourism.

Re: MP Tourism Caravans aka Holiday on Wheels | New Tourism Concept in India

In the 1st week of August myself and three of my friends had hired this particular caravan from Jabalpur for a 3 days & 2 nights package to Pachmarhi and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. The package charge was Rs 16000/- plus 1000/- extra for night stay in the vehicle and a service tax of 4.95%. On bargaining we did get a 5% discount on the package.

Only two person can sleep in the vehicle at a time though it can accommodate seven for travel purposes.

For our second night at Pachmarhi we booked just one room and myself and a friend slept in the caravan. I have to say it was pretty comfortable and rather enjoyable. The novelty factor added to the excitement.

MP Tourism doesn't allow a self drive for this vehicle.

Though the brochure says that sight seeing is not included we were able to bargain 6 spots in Pachmarhi (Priyadarshini, Handi Khoh, Jata Shankar, Pandav Caves, Catholic Church & Christ Church) as part of the package. These spots are accessible by Caravan and so the person incharge of the booking readily agreed.

There were a few niggles with the equipment and furniture on board and the attached bathroom isn't very comfortable to use specially when the vehicle is moving but i think for the pricing its well worth the money. Even hiring a Innova from Jabalpur for the round trip plus the fuel expenses would have easily cost us around 12-13K. So for around 4-5K extra it was well worth the upgrade.
