Identify this 4WD Truck? EDIT : It's an Ashok Leyland Comet

Can someone identify this 4wd truck? 5 of them are laying in this condition for over 3 years and are supposedly going to be auctioned this april. I have no Idea what manufacturer these trucks belong to as all badges have been stripped off.
This belonged to some panchayath and its looks like a generator or something mounted on its back!

If you could post a pic of the rear wheel hub, maybe I could make an informed guess

Hopefully I can do that next time when I get near this place, where this truck has been parked or left to rot!

The fenders are similar to AL Comets. What I believe is this is a coach work done by some one. The cab looks a bit out of place. This could be an early AL or something else.

Judging by the shape of the quarter glasses, the high windshield and the large rectangular turn indicators, I would venture to say this is an Ashok Leyland Comet tipper albeit with a rebodied cabin. But thats just my guess, as I've never seen old 4x4s from AL

Cheers,
Rahul

Appears to be an Ashok Leyland variant. The cabin air intake door is a clue.

That is an Ashok Leyland Comet, pre-1990, which is evident from the front 'housing'. i have seen 4X4 lorries from Leyland stable way back in 1980's belonging to "Poabson's Group" in Kerala

Thank you guys for your replies. I always pass by these trucks while coming home from office, and I used to keep wondering.. As 4wd trucks here are a rare sight!

Does AL still manufacture these 4wd trucks?

AL still manufactures the Comet, but the 4x4 version is only for the export and for defence markets I think. Their website doesn't list a domestic civilian 4x4 Comet.

Cheers,
Rahul

It could be a Comet, like many have said, but let's not forget that the cab, which was almost always made by a body-garage, can be made to look like anything that the workshop personnel want it to look like. The cab styling includes the headlights and turn indicators and their positioning too.

AL does NOT manufacture the Comet anymore. The truck model nomenclature now aligns with the TM style these days. The only 4x4s AL manufacture these days are the Stallion range of defence vehicles. However, there could be customized ones tailor-made for specific customers. For example, the garbage compacter trucks built on the 1616 truck chassis have their length reduced by a few feet and the compacter hydraulics added at the rear.

It still does (resembling the AL STAG bus/Early Ford Cargo) but the name is changed to ECOMET. Please see the link.

Sir, Ecomet is the ICV range from AL. Comet used to be the HCV range. The Ecomet has replaced the Cargo range. There used to be a Comet Junior for a brief period, but it didn't click/got replaced by the Cargo range soon.

AL also makes 4X4 Trucks for Export markets and even a 4X4 bus variant for African markets.
