Re: SCOOP Pics : Tata Winger / Renault Master

Today on outer ring road (old madras road towards hebbal flyover) saw similar vehicle with stickers all around. It was getting little dark n in moving traffic, I could not capture any photo.

By looking at headlamps n indicators, I believe it's the same UV.

P.S- this is the bigger counterpart of Trafic aka Winger.
Why are you being so sarcastically judgmental about TATA ? Why are you saying its shameful?

You think its a dated product, but FYI India dint even have a winger sort of vehicle. This dated MPV is more modern than any indian Standard.

Given the Product Life Cycle of products nowdays, its always better to have a quick introduction in market.

So whats the problem if any manufacturer purchases a plant from renault which has stopped production of particular model.

Apart from just the panels which are manufactured from the die , there is wide ERC role in localization of parts.

FYI on winger too they have reinforced strut mounts, floor panels and many other things considering indian rough roads.

P.S - tempo traveler is also directly picked up from Mercedes Europe.

Totally agree with your view points. Its quite easy to be an arm chair critic.

The effort spent by any automotive company from conception thru manufacturing & maintenance is huge, not to mention the associated costs. Have been part of most of those phases and its not as rosy as it seems. So using an existing platform with most of the manufacturing related costs (dies etc etc) covered, is a better option. Will help in keeping the cost low with a faster to market product, which translates to a cheaper vehicle (win-win for all I would say - provided the end result ticks most of the needs).

The "Traffic" in itself is a good and robust model. Seems to be a reasonable upgrade for the existing Winger from a layman point of view.

Having said that, the real focus for Tata (and for most of the the desi OEMs) should be about ensuring the quality - during manufacturing and post-sales. This is the single most reason why most of the good ends up bad on our roads.

Based on the recent launches from both Tata, M&M etc, hopefully things are moving in the right direction.

first of all am a Tata fan boy, right from the Sierra/Estate days and wishing all the best for the company, though nowadays it kinda lost the plot(post 2009). And shameful, cause it has the i believe the expertise and know how to make a van at least.

It may make good business sense it seems as the only competition it has is Force Traveller, and the customers of these vehicles are least bothered about the origin of the design as long as it hauls peoples/loads, gives decent FE and reliability with easy access of spare parts.

I hope Mahindra doesn't get the jitters to compete in this segment and overnight create a bus/mini van out of their xylo platform and create something uglier than the quanto.

Re: SCOOP Pics : Tata Winger / Renault Master

Good move by Tata IMO. Reason being why to waste money, time and efforts to come out with something looking 'similar' to beefed up Indica!!

At least Winger looks different and 2008 model is definitely a positive move compared to 90's Traffic which they bought here as Winger.

By the way Suzuki dumped so many discontinued models here

Re: SCOOP Pics : Tata Winger / Renault Master

Is Tata Venture also a phased out European design? It doesn't look dated, but current Winger certainly is.

Thanks. Winger seems a different thought process. A different team with a separate target within Tata R&D. May be the Ace team can also expand their work to reach Winger size. They can be as cost-effective as buying proven designs from abroad.

Hmmm...I doubt if Tata have a short throw gearbox thats short enough to fit in the area shown for the gear stick in this Renault Master.

Re: SCOOP Pics : Tata Winger / Renault Master

Picture of Tata's own desi Winger aka Tata Calypso can be seen here:

It had the same 1948 CC IDI engine that Winger comes with!

I fully agree with the above qoute.
I have travelled in winger a number of times and it is a very comfortable vehicle with powerful AC and good suspensions.
The driver was also happy with the steeing effort and comfort
I think it is very innovative to buy toolings from European and Japanese players as they are far ahead of our times.
Tata Motors has done the right thing by capatlising on this and providing a new segment in the market.
In my recent visit to Assam ,i was surprised to see a whole lot of wingers ferrying as many as 15 to 20 people ,thus providing a low cost transport solution in our villages as well as town.

Three cheers to TATA MOTORs to always come up with innovative ideas and business solutions !!!

Re: SCOOP Pics : Tata Winger / Renault Master

TATA should offer one variant with only 2 front captain seats, A.C vents for the entire cabin, better suspension along with 2.2. This will allow individual to modify as they desire.

Re: SCOOP Pics : Tata Winger / Renault Master

I caught this test mule on my way back from office. Looks like it is new Winger from the profile.

It had some tech problem and test team was talking to someone over phone.

When asked them for details they said it is Mahindra vehicle and is a 5 seater

Asked for permission to take few close pictures which they politely declined
