Tata Iris CNG spotted Testing

Saw a CNG Tata Iris on test, the transmission and wheels at rear resemble the nano. Is it cross testing for nano?

re: Tata Iris CNG spotted Testing

Hey nice find @tourquecurve. And a smart question too. Is tata really testing out the CNG Nano in disguise of the Iris to avoid speculations from Auto scoop hounds like us and the auto media? Well if you really think it was running on Nano rear wheels, and nano transmission, you do have a real guess. But all I know is the entire, Ace IRIS range shares platform with the Nano, doesnt it? The IRIS & the ACE ZIP both share platform with the Nano.

I have a link to a t-bhp thread, here it is: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...s-arrived.html
So, it might simply turn out to be that a real ACE IRIS CNG test mule is what it is actually. Although even that is a Big scoop.

re: Tata Iris CNG spotted Testing

The CNG version of Iris is not for cross testing of Nano.
Iris has a single cylinder engine mated to TA59 gearbox.
No way it resembles the Nano.

re: Tata Iris CNG spotted Testing

The Iris engine is a diesel / CNG engine sourced from Greaves. This vehicle is built on the Nano platform which explains the similarities.

From what I understand diesels are not directly convertible to CNG. I could be wrong though. Also the vehicle had the typical tap tap sound of the nano. Moreover the suspension setup was not like any iris I has seen earlier. That's what led me to think it is a wolf in sheeps clothing.

re: Tata Iris CNG spotted Testing

@torquecurve, Thank You for the images.

But, I won't concur with your observation that this could be testing for the Nano CNG. The reason being Nano's CNG cylinder is to be placed under the front passenger seat & cannot be this big as it would intrude the driver's seat otherwise, where the battery is placed. Nano's boot is also no that big to accommodate this big cylinder & there would be problems in servicing of the car if the cylinder is put in boot.

At best this could be a variant of the IRIS for cities where Diesel autos for public transport are not allowed.

Re: Tata Iris CNG spotted Testing

This is definitely not cross testing of Nano and its the actual testing of Iris - CNG. As said the engines are sourced from Greaves and the platform is based in Nano. SO there may be some design similarity between Nano and Iris.
