Tata Motors’ Jamshedpur plant marks a red letter day with the rollout of its 2 millionth truck.

This factory manufactures Tata’s entire range of medium and heavy commercial vehicles. That includes over 200 truck variants, ranging from multi-axle trucks, tractor-trailers, tippers, mixers and special application vehicles.

The Jamshedpur facility was Tata Motors’ first, set up in 1945, to manufacture steam locomotives. It led the company’s foray into commercial vehicles in 1954.

The main assembly line rolls out one truck every 5 minutes. The engine assembly shop manufactures the Tata 697 / 497 naturally-aspirated & turbo-charged engines, with a capacity of supplying up to 200 engines per day.

What's the proportion of Tata Ace in the figure of 2 million? I think it exceeds 1 million.

Is the ACE also made here? I thought this plant is only for Medium and Heavy vehicles and not Small?

I read the press release again. The 2 millon figure is for the Jamshedpur plant alone so it doesn't include Ace which is made in Pantnagar. I stand corrected!

Any idea how many Prima trucks have been sold till date? Also, why can't they launch a bus with it's face!

Volvo advertise as "Real Bus" hinting that Tata and AL makes buses out of trucks. Now you want a bus with truck face?

The Jamshedpur plant has the medium and heavy range of trucks including the World Truck series of PRIMA.
Its strange that they are operational since 1945 and only now were able to achieve this landmark. But reading from the article "Established in 1945, Tata Motors had rolled out its first millionth vehicle on December 9, 1990, about 45 years after the company was set up, while the second millionth vehicle took about 23 years" I think its an achievement achieving the second million in half the time as before.

Dear Rushabh - thanks for putting this thread on the forum. I feel so nice to be a part of this achievement. The Prima is a great vehicle, I just love its looks, its drive and its feel. The yellow color looks absolutely gorgeous on it!

Tata ACE is not manufactured at the Jamshedpur unit, it is done at the Pantnagar Unit. Congratulations to Tata for this great feat, although this comes at a challenging phase through which TML Jamshedpur is going through. We sincerely hope TML jamshedpur comes out of the market woes at the earliest and they can celebrate this feat with a huge production roll out too.

Tata Jamshedpur will be one of the very few of plant in world to produce 2million CV from single location. Its a very long haul and Great Job!!
